View Full Version : Elements v3 to v4 upgrade

Hi All
My first post is a question with regard to installing version 4 of PSE on a PC that already has version 3 installed.
Is it best to uninstall version 3 first, or simply install version 4 to run side by side with version 3, albeit not at the same time as I have picked up from other posts.
If version 3 should be uninstalled, how have other users achieved this? Speaking to Adobe technical support has confused me rather than clarified the situation! They have e-mailed me detailed instructions to manually uninstall version 4, but there is apparently no equivalent document for uninstalling version 3! As this includes instructions for changing the registry I am a little reluctant to dive in.
Any comments would be much appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the Forums, David!
You can safely have both on your system, no problem there! If space isn't a concern, I wouldn't not venture in the registry for the sole purpose of uninstalling a small software.

David,
Welcome to the forums :)
As Ray posted, different versions of PSE will sit quite happily on your PC - I have PSE3 and PSE4 and use them both.
A couple of things you can't do though:
Use different versions at the same time.
Share the Organizer Catalog between PSE3 and PSE4.It is worth keeping PSE3 because some add-ons and plug-ins that make PSE more like Photoshop won't work in PSE4.

Hi David,
Happy New Year...
There are some good (and free!!) videos and tutorials on the new PESE4 features in the PSE4 Learning Centre:

I have now installed PSE 4 without any problems; all appears to be working ok. (Windows XP).
One noticeable difference between PSE3 organiser and PSE4 organiser is that as the thumbnails are loaded in, the 'greyed out' hourglass changes to the image, and initially the images appear to be identical to those I see in PSE3.
But almost immediately, there appears to be a 'second pass', whereby the images that have just been loaded seem to 'jump' or 'flicker', and the resultant thumbnail and/or picture in the editor appear to be much brighter.
Has anyone else noticed this?

David,
The same happened when I installed PSE4 last week. That has happened in 3 when a large batch of photos has been downloaded. I haven't worried about it..
Eva ;)
