I've seen a tutorial for making text look 3d in an angular way but can anyone suggest or direct me to a tutorial that makes text look rounded like writing on a birthday cake?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Do you mean writing on the top, circular part of the cake, or on the vertical edge - like the label on a soup can?

The writing on top surface of the cake. The writing is squeezed through a round hole in a pastry bag. I'm looking for shiny and rounded text without shadows. Any ideas? I'm playing with layer styles and filters but so far they seem to completely change the color of the text and usually add shadows or some kind of background noise.

Hi ...

Try applying a bevel layer style ... then go to the layers palette and double click on the layer styles icon which will be next to the text.

Now experiment with changing the lighting angle and the bevel size ... hopefully that will achieve the result you want :)

you migh also try a font that looks kind of rounded to begin with and then add the bevel to it with a drop shadow. Some of the handwriting fonts look more rounded than flat. Just an idea.
I will look and see what fonts that I have and see how it looks.

Thanks for the instructions. I want to use Papyrus and maybe I just haven't found the correct bevel to use yet. I can get a little dimension but but not as rounded looking as I had hoped for. Also, I meant to mention that I'm using version 6 if that makes a difference.

Papyrus is a little grungy and looks like it has small pits in it... not sure how that would look with a bevel.

Rather than just a bevel, why not try one of the Wow Plastic layer styles. It makes text look like it was written with gel decorating tubes.

The font used for this example is Brush Dom Regular.

Hey, all of the fonts show up as basic text unless you modify them as above. Is there anyway of getting a plugin or something that has more graphic looking fonts that are pre-made? I've seen cool fonts that look like they have bullet holes in them and stuff...
