Hey guys, new to the forum. I tried to search but couldn't find anything...
Is there a max file size that you can import into Premiere Elements 7? I have a pretty big file (25+ GB), running on Windows 7 and it is taking forever to load. It hasn't crashed but it seems hung. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi ...
... and welcome to the Village :)
I'll transfer your thread over to the Premiere Elements Sectino as I think you will get more replies if it is in there.

The matter of File Size goes to your computer resources. Also what is the source and format of this 25 GB + video? Are we talking SD, HDV, AVCHD??
What is the Premiere Elements project preset that you set in the New Project dialog before the import and how are you importing the video..Get Media/Files & Folders? And, what is your intended export choice?
Please describe your computer, Windows 7 operating system, and its resources (installed/available RAM; total and free C: drive space; total and free external hard drive space; virtual memory setup)
Have you read the System Requirement for Premiere Elements 7

The file turns out to be much lager than 25GB, it's 80GB :) Its a High Def .wmv file. I let it load overnight and when I got up in the morning it said that the file format was incorrect or the necessary codecs aren't installed. It looks like it loaded it successfully, it just took 8 hrs :|
Here are my system specs
AMD 7750 Dual core 2.7GHz
2GB RAM
x64 Windows 7 OS
Onboard HDMI video card
2+ TB HDD
I suppose more RAM would make this load faster...?
I don't recall what type of project I created and I don't want to load it or else I'd have to finish this post in the morning. Do you have any recommendations what type of project that I should create? All that I'm looking to do with this is to edit out a bunch of junk.
EDIT: Nevermind about the project question. I didn't have it set to the correct project. I started a new project and looked around and now I see what I should have set it to to begin with. This solves the 'incorrect format' problem, but doesn't address the max file size issue. If it takes me at least longer than 4 hours to load the file, will it be manageable to edit the file?
Thanks.

An important question is just how long (minutes/hours) is this 80 GB "high definition" video with a .wmv file extension?
Depending on how things go, I will need to know more information about the source and properties of this .wmv. Also, how are you attempting to get it into Premiere Elements...Get Media/Files & Folders?? So, follow up on this needs to include what your started with and what you hope to end up with. Are we talking about 720p, 1080p, ....? You realize that, although you can import 1080p, Premiere Elements exports 1080i not 1080p.

That message might be for reasons other than what is stated.
Do you have the latest version of Quicktime and Windows Media Player installed on your computer? Did you take the file into the free utility called gspot to help you out with the missing codec angle?

As for RAM, 2 GB is unrealistic here. And if that 2 GB is installed rather than available RAM, your available RAM is probably far less than 2 GB. BUT, remember this. Premiere Elements is a 32 bit application. And as such runs in the 32 bit compatibility mode of a 64 bit operating system. Because of this, when Premiere Elements is running in this 32 bit compatibility mode, the max utilization RAM is 4 GB even if you have more RAM than that installed. So, installing 4 GB RAM would seem in order although you will probably end up with less than 4 GB RAM available when running Premiere Elements.
Also, I could use some more information on what your hard drive situation is.
2+ TB HDD
Is that an external hard drive?
If so, are your scratch files directed there. See Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks. Program files should remain on the C drive. How much free space do you have on the C drive if the 2+ TB HDD is an external hard drive?
I guess that you have read the system requirements for Premiere Elements 7:
