I would like to get everyone's opinion on this picture. My daughter likes it, my wife does not like it and I'm undecided. Tell me what you think. I'm a tough ole bird.

Thanks
Dale

The beautiful picture is lost in the frame. I'd lose the half-tone effect, or whatever that is. If you want to add a narrow stroke in the purple, that might work. JMHO

framing overwhelms the beautiful photo of the flower - if you want to frame it - try a more subtle frame. I do like the idea of purple framing, but the amount of purple needs to be just a hint - a light line or something - nothing should take your eye away from the flower.

I agree with PP.

To me the main subject is getting lost on the background. You
might try toning down the background (opacity) then add a vignette.

Dale, I agree with the others, I also think it's too busy.

Thanks to all who reply
What about this # 1 or # 2

Dale, #1 is better than #2. Two is too plain.
If you can either enhance (make more prominent) the flower in #1 or mute (reduce the opacity) the background I think it would improve further.

Big improvement, but I'm thinking a black stroke would be even better....make the whole thing pop instead of shouting "PURPLE."

I did try it in black but it will not work. Thanks for your reply.

You could try using a less brilliant purple, try selecting the color from the flowers themselves.

I do like the darker muted frame better.

I think my problem is that I don't like that fussy purple frame no matter how you use it. For me, the simple line is an improvement, but it doesn't "sing" yet.

I'm at a loss - maybe the idea of black is what will make it pop.

I'm starting to think the symmetry of the photo might be the problem. And you have to know, saying that is just about "against my religion" - my nickname is symmetry girl.

(Not sure the off-center crop is an improvement, but...)

I'm still playing with framing/borders - not finding what works for me.

And, I keep looking at that beautiful photo and thinking what a great scrapbook page it would make. I want to see lots of other digi-scrap stuff around it -

I'm getting distracted...

EDIT - didn't notice the black framed photos - that seems to be getting closer to what works.

Janice, I looked at your gallery and your layouts are very well done and pleasing to the eye.

I thought I would try a clipping mask instead of a frame. I got the clipping mask freebie at this site:

http://www.storeide.se/gunhild/ it is on page 5 of the freebies.

Elaine - I had trouble getting to page five because I was spending too much time looking at the cat photos. :D Thanks for the link.

Thanks for the kind words about my LO's - you've encouraged me to add a few more. I do like that clipping mask you used on the flower..
