Presently,PSE7 allows slide display time to increase up to 5 seconds. This is too fast and should be increased to at least 15 to 20 seconds per slide. In fact, this is a good fix for PSE7. Trying to do this by selecting audio and setting the slideshow to audio does not provide an adequate time per slide. The last time I tried it, I ended up with 25 seconds per slide which is much too long.

When you create a slide show, the dialogue box for slide show preferences appears with a 5 sec static duration. This can be changed at this point. If you leave that as the basic time setting, you can change all slides or individual slides later to whatever time wanted.

If you have your properties bin showing (under View, click palette bin), you can select one slide (or all slides) and change the duration of the slide by using the arrow beside the time. It increases to 7 sec...but you are not limited to that. You can type in any time by highlighting the '5 sec' and replace it with your change.

If I have misunderstood your concerns....let me know. Hope this helps.

I would agree with Es that there are several options for adjusting slideshow slide duration in the Photoshop Elements Slideshow Preferences and far more once you are in the Slideshow Editor itself. Whereas you can set 1 to 5 sec in the Preferences, you can set 0.5 to 120.0 seconds (“accurate to one decimal point”) in the Slideshow Editor. In the latter, you have choices of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 seconds and custom. It is in the custom that you can type in values to 120.0 seconds.

Now when you add audio to the mix, more considerations are necessary.
a. In the Preferences, there is a check off for “Repeat Sound Track to end”. This is handy if you have a lot of slides and an audio with far less length. Even if your total slides duration exceeds the length of the audio, the audio will keep playing until the last slide. And, you can adjust the duration of the slides, all at one at a time, all at once, or just a few at one time.
b. If you decide to use the Fit Slides to Audio, then the deciding factor in this is the duration of the audio.
If the total slides duration is less than that of the audio, clicking on Fit Slides to Audio will increase the slide duration for all the slides. But, you can adjust the duration of each slide.
If the total slides duration is greater than the audio, clicking on Fit Slides to Audio will decrease the slide duration for all the slides. But, you can adjust the duration of each slide.
You can get away with a lot before the program will tell you add more audio even with “Repeat Sound Track to end” activated in the Preferences.

From your post I am not sure if you know of all the slideshow slide duration options available to you or if you know them but they do not meet your needs. There are a lot of variations on the theme. These are but a few.

Experiment and explore. And, if you have Premiere Elements 7, consider adding the music to your slideshow after you send it to Premiere Elements 7 with the Photoshop Elements 7 Slideshow Editor Output option of Send to Premiere Elements. When you use that route, the Break Apart Slideshow command is available to you in Premiere Elements 7 for further editing of the Photoshop Elements 7 slideshow.

Check it all out to make sure that what I have written is consistent with what you find.

We will be looking forward to your progress and comments from you and Es.

Es

I am hoping that we can work together to make sure that Carl is taking full advantage of the program's offerings.

We will be looking forward to his response to our comments.
