Yes, I just found that out from the same source. That news diminished my enthusiasm somewhat.

If you do that right now today in Leopard, PSE isn't going to work, either. You can't restore PSE from Time Machine after a system restore. I don't know whether or not PSE works in Snow Leopard, but that for sure isn't a good reference one way or the other! It's too soon to panic. Frankly, if CS3 is known to work I don't see why PSE 6 wouldn't.

Thanks Barbara for the insight - as one who knows the ins and outs of the program (and referencing CS3) - you would probably know! I've ordered Snow Leopard (9.95 as I have a new comp) - but don't plan on installing it for a couple of months - to let the "weird stuff" work its way through.

I'm sure there will be some more news one way or the other in a day or so. I myself don't have a chance to try it till next week, but i'll let you know what happens.

I have Snow Leopard on order but as we are going away next Friday I won't be able to install until we get back .. but as Barbara said if CS3 works then PSE6 should too :)

We've been running the final version, and PSE 6 works fine on our Macs with Snow Leopard.
It's also not on Apple's incompatibility list (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258), which lists Apple's own Aperture as incompatible.
A lot of FUD gets thrown around when there are big OS updates, but as someone who's been in on all of the OS X updates, Snow Leopard _looks_ like it will be a minor update if you're running mainstream apps.

I think the key thing was what Barbara brought up in the beginning. The site was talking about doing an install from Time Machine - which probably doesn't work. It might be fine for documents, etc - but not for actual software programs. As I move from my old G4 to the MacPro - I'm installing the software programs from their original disks rather then the FW external hard drives (that have total backup using superduper). I am slowly moving the other files - documents, etc from the FW external to the new pro. I did try to move all the things (brushes, etc) from the PSE 6 folder on the back up - but must have a number of things that don't work in PSE 6 - as it caused some problems - I had to reinstall PSE 6 and am going to do a slow transfer - a little at a time rather then the old big folders.

I just did a Time Machine restore last week on My PowerBook G4 running Leopard and Elements 6 worked perfectly afterword. Might be a different result on an Intel based MacBook for example.

Boy, all of us with Power PC processors on our Mac's are getting left in the dust.

Yes, but did you remove all the other support files before restoring (which is essentially what's going to happen if you do a system upgrade in between)? I've never known TM to be able to successfully restore PSE 6 if you delete all the remaining files and erase the drive before restoring, so I'm curious.

Sorry to say - but yea you are right. With software manufacturers trying to cut expenses (not having to write programs for both Power PC and intel processors does save time and money) and now with Apple saying with Snow Leopard that Leopard is the last for the Power PC... the time has come. But at the same time - the Power PC still does work - its just that future programs won't be written to include them. Depends on how much new "glitter" will entice you to want to buy new. But that is part of our consumer society - make stuff so that past things have to be replaced. I have succumbed to this - of course my old tower is 10 years old but is still functional - I just want to be ready for the new stuff coming out. I've already been offered $500 for my old comp - because it can still run OS 9!!! plus I've been able to expand and update the internals in the tower as time has progressed.

Just thought I would post the solution for Time Machine backups, as given by someone in the Apple discussions, in case anyone needs it:
From your Time Machine Backup go to:
Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher/FLEXnet folder
Restore the file in the FLEXnet folder (called adobe_........) to the same location on your new SL installation. You should now be able to launch PSE6 and enter your registration code
I haven't tried this myself, but a few people have said it works for them.

From what I have read it works fine with the Intel chip based Mac's. I just ordered my copy.

I just installed Snow Leopard and when I opened PSE for the first time, the Adobe updater did it's thing and it seems to work fine. I just opened a quick new file and added a background, though.
It appears there are no problems.

PSE 6 works fine for me. My problem lies in the unavailability of updated Epson drivers. I have an SPR 800. As of this moment I can no longer print photos with it after upgrading. I saw a post on another forum that others were also experiencing the same problem. Someone said that the new drivers would be available in October, I hope they're right.

Jana,
I'm just curious - what about E7 on Windows is so much better that you wish the Mac version had it? I really don't see much in there that I can't do, aside from Organizer-related stuff.
Best,

I have had an issue with the installation of snow leopard, in that the layer mask "hack" I had no doesn't work. It is strange in that old files with a layer mask still work, but new files won't work when trying to add a layer mask.
All the genuine bits of PSE6 work!!

FWIW I am running Snow Leopard and PSE 6 starts and runs OK. I haven't tried to do much with it and I am having a problem installing an action (see my post to Wendy). I thought my problem installing the action was a result of my ineptness; maybe not.

I have upgraded to Snow Leopard and have had no problems whatsoever. I also just recently installed an action from Panos and didn't have a problem with that either.
I will check your other thread to see if I can spot what the problem is, if Wendy hasn't already solved it ;)
