I think I’m going to take the plunge and upgrade my PSE4 to PSE7. Will I need to uninstall 4 before installing PFS7? I assume that the Organizer will stay intact on my system (Win XP).

Hi Stringbean.
You don't need to uninstall PSE4. You can have both versions. That's how I have it.

The Organizer stays intact with PSE4 and you will be given the option of creating one for PSE7 from the PSE4 one but thereafter the old one won't get updated. You can have as many versions as you like but can only use one at a time (I think I have 5 of them)
At this stage I think I'd wait a mointh or so and see what PSE8 has to offer - it can't be too far away - the signs are out there :).

PSE8? That's interesting. What is the advantage of having more than one version?

Thats interesting?? I thought having more then one version of a particular program might be a cause of having conflicts with driver issues. Since they would be the same and use the same naming conventions, when an install would try to place a certain driver in a Windows System File it might overwrite the same file for an early version of the same program.
I used to use Photoshop 7, and I had taken it out to Install CS2. But when I had gotten PE5, I found that using both CS2 and PE5 was a lot more beneficial. I have never had any problems between these two but I would probably have a heartattack if I were to try and Install a newer version of either one of these onto the same puter.
Now it seems besides the formentioned new version of Elements, I also am starting to hear about a new version of the CS Line as well. Anybody wanna but CS5???
This is getting way too expensive. I just got a new Laptop, now I'm looking to see if the price for the CS4 would drop a bit more. Hehe, someone here who shall remain nameless Hint Hint just announced that the price for the CS4 Upgrade just dropped again and is now 50% Off.
Forget my CS2, I waited too long obviously and I know its too old for the Upgrade. But I wonder if I can get the Upgrade for the CS4 from my PE5?
Which would be better? Getting Light Room to add to my choices or going the route to the Upgrade to CS4? Hmmmmm.......

Mark ...
I mentioned in another thread (but I don't think you saw it) that you can still upgrade from CS2 ... the current upgrade to CS4 for existing Photoshop owners is for people who have CS, CS2 or CS3. Cost is $199

Wow, I had thought my CS2 was too old from some where. I think it was from reading one of the Upgrade boxes or something.
Thnx Wendy, I'll check it out.

There is no official release date yet. But from the past few years Adobe has been release PSE around mid-Sept/mid-Oct.

After reading comments about previous versions of PSE and their problems I think it might be wise to wait. If I upgrade it will be version 7. It annoys me when a new version comes out and Adobe expects everyone to jump on the update bandwagon.

Stringbean, why would you be annoyed by that? By releasing a new version, and "expecting" everyone to jump on the upgrade bandwagon, the company is doing exactly what it's meant to do...make money. They aren't in the business to spend the money to create newer versions and then NOT expect people to upgrade. That wouldn't be very cost effective, nor would such a company stay in business long. Soooo, don't let it annoy you....just don't upgrade if you don't want to. Life's too short to allow such things to become an annoyance....especially in the realm of software upgrades...lol. Seems there is a new "something" out every coupla weeks.

I kept PSE5 when I upgraded to PSE6 & 7 and added CS4. The reason I did not convert my catalog was that all my 'collections' {now called albums}, projects, version sets, etc., would have been lost. I don't see any conflicts. I just started fresh with current images in the new catalog, leaving all the old ones in the old catalog. I rarely need them, but want them available.
That said, however, I also had the bundles with Premiere. When I added the version that came with PSE6, it was not performing well. It was suggested that I uninstall the version that was bundled with PSE5. I had better luck then.
I guess it just depends on variables as to whether multiple versions are usable on the same computer.:D
