How crazy is it that a program made for scrapbooking does not have a spell check. It is an absolute necessity for Elements 8.

Hi Bobbie ...
... and welcome to the Village :)
I guess the main reason is probably that Elements is not really designed as a word processor ... so I doubt that Adobe have this high on the list of things to add. Also I suspect that spell checking could get quite problematic for Elements as the English version is sold in many countries and each have their own ways of spelling words. ... so on that basis they would then need a different version for the individual countries.
For large blocks of text I think quite a few scrapbookers prepare it in Word and then import it into Element.

Funnily enough all versions of Photoshop Elements do have a spell checker it's just that Adobe in their wisdom haven't yet provided a way of accessing it or AFAIK the dictionary to go with it. But if you have something like Elements Plus you can tap into it as long as you have the dictionary to go with it. That said, and I do have Elements Plus, I never use it as I do just what others have said - write it outside of Elements in a text editor, spell-check it and then copy and paste it into an Elements text box.

Hi Tony ...
Its accessing the Photoshop Spell Checker ... not something I bother too much with as it spells in USA and not in UK. It is possible to add to the dictionary but I there are so many to add what with the u and the z issues :D:D

Thank you all for your help. I have been doing most of my journaling in Word and then copy and paste but I would just like to avoid that extra step. It still seems to be important enough for Adobe to overcome the difficulties.
Who wants to go and back and forth to Word when we want to spend our time creating.

Bobbie, i do understand your point of view. That being said there are so many ways of looking at this. Here is looking at it from my side of the fence i use text some and would rather adobe add say....add text path instead of spell check i would be so happy. But like you those who do a lot of journaling would disagree with me. So i guess it is all perspective.:D
