I am currently running PSE 7 on a PC. I have been a PC user from day one, but have always been intrigued with Mac's and really would like to purchase one.

I do have problems with the PSE Editor "shutting down" from time to time. Have tried some of the debugging procedures from the posts on the PC forums, but it is still a nuisance.

My PSE questions concerning converting to the Mac are these:

1.) Are there issues with PSE "shutting down" on the Mac? As stated above, every once in a while I will get the "PSE has encountered and problem and will have to close." Does this happen on the Mac?

2.) Will I have to purchase a new Mac copy of PSE? I have been a regular upgrader of the PC version since #2 I think.

3.) I understand the Organize is for PC's only and think I understand the conversion issues to iPhoto.

4.) Any thing else I should be aware of? Either specific to PSE or just in general?

Thanks in advance for you time.

Hi Stan. I have had my iMac for one year now. I had pc's for 25 years. I love my Mac. Having said that;
1. Yes, for me anyway. My program (Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac) crashes at least once a week. I have raised the amount of memory to be allotted to Elements, but maybe not enough. Maybe someone else has an idea on this.
2. Yes, the operating system is different, so you will need to purchase a Mac version if you switch to Mac. However, you can buy Parallels and Windows for Mac and run the copy you have. I found that ultimately, that was a waste of my money for me.
3. The Mac version of Elements has Bridge CS3, which I love. I rarely use iPhoto. I think Bridge is a great organizer.
4. I love my Mac. I like being able to drag and drop things to place them or throw them away. No "uninstalling" as such. I am a realative newbie to Mac, so maybe someone else has a more technical viewpoint! Good luck, and welcome to the Village.

Hi Stan ...

Unlike Doris I really haven't had any problems with Elements closing down.

As far as Elements goes ... you won't have you buy a new copy of Elements. Adobe will do a cross platform disk for you. Basically you agree to destroy the Windows Disc and they will let you have a Mac one, they charge a small fee just to cover the disk etc. Last I heard it was around $6.00.

I use both iPhoto and Bridge ... iPhoto for my photo albums (with iPhoto you can use iPhotoBuddy to manage multiple libraries.) ... and Bridge for just about everything else. I love Bridge :)

I've had my mac 6 years and haven;t seen that warning. Only times have problems with quitting unexpectedly is when trying to use the pen tool in onone essentials plug in.

Wendy, where might I find out more information on Bridge? Presently I use the PSE Organizer extensively. Spent about one week tagging all my photo's in the Organizer, so it would be essential that that information be transferred to Bridge......or so I think! :)

Thanks

Hi, Stan. Here's a link on all about Bridge.
I find it easy to use and extremely versatile, in my opinion it's better than iPhoto.
I presently use CS2, but when I had Elements I don't remember ever having trouble with the software. Most of your problems come when you make too many commands and the computer has trouble handling the data to be processed, so it will quit.
Mac OS is very stable, and if one application quits that's all that quits the rest remain running. In the past if one quit the entire system would quit.

Hi Stan ...

Someone on the forum was saying that when they bought their new Mac the folks in the Apple Shop transferred all their images over for them ... so why not go into the Apple Shop and ask about it (if there is one near you)

I don't think that there was a charge for doing it :)

Most Apple Shops have what is known as a Genius Bar ... and the people there will help you sort out how to use a Mac, how to transfer things over etc etc. They really are great ....
