I am using Windows XP and Elements 7.

I believe that if I start a new catalog and I choose Display > Folder Location, I cannot display the folder containing photos in the My Pictures folder so that I can add particular folders to the catalog using the Add Unmanaged Files to Catalog option.

Once I bring photos into the catalog from the My Pictures folder by doing a Get Photos from Files and Folders, I can then expand the My Documents folder to see the folders in the My Pictures folder and then use the Add Unmanaged Files to Catalog option.

Is this the way Elements 7 works? Or Is there a way to Add Unmanaged Files to Catalog right from the beginning?

I volunteer teach seniors Photoshop Elements and it would certainly be easier if I could start up the catalog using the Add Unmanaged Files to Catalog option.

Thanking you in advance.

That's the way PSE works. Folder Location view only displays a folder if it, or one of its subfolders, contains a photo already imported into the catalog.

However, you should be able to right-click My Pictures and select Add Unmanaged Files To Catalog. This will add all the files under My Pictures to your catalog, so it may not be precisely what you want.

Note that you can also drag folders and individual photos from Windows Explorer to the Organizer. This is usually the method I use, rather than File > Get Photos And Videos or Folder Location view.
