Multiple group with previous?

I am trying to make the letter cutouts where the background is the picture. I figured out how to make one layer like that. But what if i have multiple layers of text to do that for? It never lets me. It just cancels the last thing I did.
Sorry if this is confusing.
This is what I have, but when I try to make the multiple cut outs it just takes away the last one I did and makes the new one.

What you can try is this:

1) Simplyfy all the text layers in regular layers.
2) Then merge all the "text" layers into one layer
3) Then have your photo above the merged text layer. Then press Ctrl+G to place the photo inside the text.
