Help!

I am new to this software and am trying to figure out how to save/share only a clip out of an entire project. I have put the clip on its on video line (video2 for example) with the rest of the timeline still existant in the project. I do not want to delete the rest of the timeline as I want to cut/copy out several smaller clilps and save/share them as their own files. I have tried to pick up this information on the online help guide, but no luck.

Anyone know how to do this?

THANKS!!!!

You need to set the Work Area Bar over just the section of the project you would like to export. Then under the Advanced settings under the Share option you want to export the clip as, select Work Area Only.

There are some free tutorials available at muvipix the will help you learn the program

I see some pitfalls in the details supplied by another, so let me make sure of what you want to do.

Given that you have a project setup with a video clip on video track 2 and maybe some other content also on that same track (to the right or left of our video clip of interest).

Given also you probably have content on video track 1 below that on video track 2. Here is where I see a problem.

There is a gray bar called a Work Area Bar that runs vertically across the top of the Timeline. There are 2 tiny gray tabs associated with that Work Bar, one at the beginning of the Timeline content and one at the end of the Timeline content.

OK, to isolate the portion of the clip that you want on video track 2, you move the tiny gray tabs so that they span the clip of interest, one at the clips beginning and one at the clip's end.

If you wanted to save that section as a DV AVI on the computer hard drive, you use File Menu/Export/Movie and in the Settings General there you change Range from Entire Timeline to Work Area Bar.

The problem will be that, if you did not disable the audio on audio track 1 which is directly below the selected section on video track 2, you will pick up the audio for audio tracks 1 and 2. So, one approach might be to right click the linked video/audio on video track 1/audio track 1. and de-select Enable.

If instead you wanted to save that section as a wmv on the computer hard drive, you would setup the Timeline Work Area Bar and its tabs accordingly and then go Share/Personal Computer/Windows Media and in the Windows Media dialog check "Share Work Area Bar Only". Check out the settings under the Advance button there if you want to make any adjustments to frame size, etc. for the export.

The message that I am trying to get across is to watch out for anything under the selected section, like audio in that Work Area Bar setup.

I do not know where you were going with cut/paste. Did you want to disturb the Timeline and actually subtract clips like that? Did you really mean copy/paste? And, where were you going to copy/paste to...an isolated section of the Timeline for this Work Area Bar procedure?

The Premiere Elements PDF Help is very useful, so take full advantage of it. But, never hesitate to ask questions, from smallest to largest.

I just want to thank you for this.
I was trying to save (export) an audio clip for use in another project.
What I got was the entire audio, not just the clip I wanted.
I did see the “work area” selection, but had no idea until now what it meant or how it functioned.
Thanks to the above info, it’s now working like a charm. Must remember to reset the work area to the entire project for future rendering. I also see now some use for the “disable” choice.

Thanks again. Keep up the good work.

Glad that helped. The principles and features are out there, but often it is those pesky details that are not.

I tend to go on and on with my details, but often it is those that turn things around for me and the Premiere Elements users.

Thanks for your comments.
