View Full Version : Having trouble using the mask layer

Hi Everyone,

I finally got a layer mask that actually showed up in my effects pallette. Yea!
However when I use a texture and want to "erase" the texture on the little girl with a brush, I get white or black instead of clear. Obviously I am doing this wrong. Can someone please tell me what? I have included the print screen (don't know why the Power Spec screen is to the right.) Hope you can see it clearly enough if you click to enlarge.

Thanks for your time!

charlotte

Hi Charlotte... make sure you click on the mask in the layers palette before painting on the image. If the mask is white, paint with black on the area you want the texture hidden.

Diana,
I thought that was what i was doing. But you see the white on her arm? That was what was happening. And if I switched to black there would be a black mark on her.

When I click on the white layer mask(beside the texture image), i get a brush with white, but nothing is happening.:(

Charlotte -

On your photo - you have selected Layer 1 instead of the Mask layer.

Just click on the Layer Mask itself to select it. A fine line will appear in the Mask to indicate that it's selected - then do your black/white erasures - It'll work!

Example below,

Good luck,

Steve

PS - I'm using the free Jing Screen Capture program someone mentioned here a couple of weeks ago - It works great!

Fogdrip,

I have clicked on the mask and painted with a white brush, but nothing is taking effect at all. :(

Never mind... I discovered that the black brush works to reveal. Thanks for all your help! I finally got there.:D
