problem opening downloads!!!

I have had my iMAC for just over a year. I have been using Elements with it for over 6 months. I am now getting into plug - ins and various things. I download them (making sure it says it's for a mac) and then when I go to open it, I get the thing that says "safari can't open because no available application to open it."

what does this mean and how do I get around it????

When you download the plug ins, do the sites maybe have installation instructions on their website?

... and welcome to the Village :)

Are they downloading as Zip files ?? ... if so then single click on one of the Zip files then hold down the Apple Key (Command Key) and press I. When the box pops up look at the the File Open with Box ... you should be able to choose Archive Utility. Then click on the Change All Box.

Now double click on the zip file and it should open.

If the file you downloaded is anything other than a zip file ... just post what it is and then we will see what we can do to help :)
