View Full Version : Question for you contest enterers

I'm going to enter a picture in a contest. Much of it is whitish sky at the top and snow across the bottom. Consequently it's difficult to see on much of it where the picture begins and ends. If I print it 7.5 x 10 on an 8.5 x 11 sheet, for example, should I include crop marks, or a full thin border to indicate the edges of the picture? What do you do in a case like this? (It won't be matted or framed in any way to help the judges figure it out)

A black border will delineate the pic, however I should warn you that pics with white skies tend not to do well in contests.

I have a picture in my gallery that had snow and mist along the border. It is called Mist on a snowy morning, maybe the way I framed it would give you some ideas? Not that mine is perfect or anything, just what I came up with....

Thanks to you both. I'm going with a fine 0.05 inch border in a greyish-green tone picked out of the trees in the picture. I want it to be as minimal a frame as possible and this seems to be just enough to contain everything.

If you can, don't forget to post a copy of the finished project for us to drool over!

Not sure how to do that. It's on my blog at http://jackbush.my-expressions.com but I don't know how to do a link to that particular picture. (There are about 1,000 of them there!).

By the way, how do I get my URL to show as yours does?

What picture is it? Huck Finn around the bend? You sure have some great shots there!

No, it's much older than that, going back to winter of last year. Open landscape with a few trees on the left and a bright yellow house with small buildings and not much else out to the right. All quite snowy.
Thanks for looking, by the way.

Now I feel like an idiot. I've just been back through all the pics on the blog and it turns out I never did post that one. Is there a way to post it here? Or have you lost interest by now. Wouldn't blame you.

Size a copy at 500 pixels on the longest end and save as a jpg. Then use manage attachments or something like pixcentral.

I have nothing technical to add, I just wanted to say I went through a portion of your gallery, and I LIKE YOUR WORK. Good stuff.
