Okay, so I read on here how several of you export from iphoto into a folder on the desktop, and so forth. Well, I'm having issues exporting and I'm not sure why.
When I export to a folder on my desktop, the export starts going well.. and then, out of the blue it will say "cannot export....". It doesn't give a reason WHY it can't. So lets say I was exporting 50 photos, it will get to about half or so and then give me that message.
Is there a file size or number of photos you can export at one time?
Also, I was trying to upload photos to my backup service online. It doesn't seem to play friendly with iphoto (for ME. It is suppose to though!), but when I upload files from a regular folder, say from desktop, it works beautifully (hence the reason I was trying to export). Is there a way to get to your photos that are in iphoto without having to go to iPHOTO... whenever I go to photos using Finder or Bridge, I only have the option of seeing the files in iphoto.
Also, why is it when I export, the files that DID successfully export are still in my iphoto library, shouldn't they be removed from there since they have been moved/exported to a folder on the desktop?
I think I'm messing up on this whole export thing.... sigh.

Hi ...
First thing is that when you export from iPhoto it is only exporting a copy of the image and not the original .. so that is how it is supposed to work :) but I'm not sure why it isn't exporting them all ... I wonder if its a memory problem. Although 50 doesn't sound a lot ??
I cant help on the online backup as I do mine to an external hard drive ... that way I just copy the library over.
There is a way of looking at the images in the iPhoto library without going through iPhoto (although I wouldn't recommend it). You need to find the iPhoto library, then Control Click on it (Control being the far left key at the bottom of the keyboard ... its called different things on different keyboards)and choose the option Show Package Contents.

Good morning Wendy,
I did copy over the iphoto library to my EHD, as well. Although I wasn't really wanting to do THAT, I was wanting to copy the files over but not into iphoto library format ... or whatever you call it. I really wanted them to be in regular old FOLDER format on my EHD. But at least I have them backed up there too.
Ok, so I need to ask.... why do you not recommend to view the files outside of iphoto by showing 'package contents'? I know nothing about "show package contents" which is why I'm asking, before I actually do it... LOL!

One more thing, as I sit and think about this....
Can I just CUT>PASTE the photos from iphoto into a folder on my desktop and then access them that way, withOUT having to use iphoto to view them from the desktop? I'm thinking this might be a workaround instead of having to export them, so that I can get them uploaded to my backup service.

Hi ...
First thing is I don't know how you would be able to Cut & Paste from inside iPhoto ?? ...
As far as why I don't recommend doing anything with the photos from within show 'package contents' is because that is inside the structure of the iPhoto library and playing around in there may cause all sorts of corruption.
Another way of transferring things from iPhoto into a folder of your desktop is to drag & drop them from the iPhoto window ... that may work for you :)

Thank you Wendy!
As far as how to cut/paste from within iphoto...it let me do that (I just did like 5 of them to test) by highlighting the photos and then clicking and choose cut, then I pasted them into a folder I made on desktop, by opening that folder and clicking paste.
Still not sure why I'm having export problems though. Darn thing.
I guess I'm just going to put them into a folder on the desktop and stop worrying about it.

Hi ...
Sometimes I just select the images in iPhoto and then drag them into a desktop folder ... that is pretty quick to do.
Also you can simply select the images you want in iPhoto and the do File>Export ... its a lot quicker than doing then individually :)

Hi
Regarding your iPhoto export problem----- you could try deleting your iPhoto Preference file. It is a simple procedure.
Make sure iPhoto is closed. Go to
Finder>Home Folder>Library>Preferences>com.apple.iphoto.plist
The home folder is your user account. Once you locate the file, move it to the trash. Then open iPhoto and see if it still misbehaves. (A new preference file will be created when you open iPhoto. You may have to reset some of your preferences)
Hope that works----:)
I know you are new to the Mac, so here is a link (http://www.brighthub.com/computing/mac-platform/articles/3396.aspx) explaining more about Mac preference files.
