I would like to know what programs some of my fellow forum members are using for print screen. Just curious.

I use SnagIt, from a company called Techsmith. I have to make screenshots for handouts & teaching materials for work, so I wanted a program with some editing capabilities built in. You can download a 30-day free trial here (http://www.techsmith.com/screen-capture.asp).

Hey, Judy...in poking around the Techsmith website, I see they have a new product, Jing (http://www.jingproject.com/features/). Seems similar to SnagIt, but scaled down. It's free...maybe it would fit your needs. I haven't tried it myself.

have been using Gadwin Print Screen from Gadwin - a free program that has a number of options and is easy to use - their website; http://gadwin.com/
windows has a 'snipping' option that allows you to capture screen or portion of same but I have not used it to date due to satisfaction and ease of use in Gadwin Print Screen - I will aslo use program such as 'doPDF' to print entire contents of web page to a .pdf file for later use when not connected to the net - it installs as a 'printer' which will print to file only meaning you need program such as Acrobat Reader to view or ELEMENTS to edit images etc
enjoy

I use Fastone Capture and love it... it's not free but is only 19.95 for a lifetime license (allows you to download all new upgrades & install with your original registration code). I use it for all the screenshots in my PET tutorials.

Judy,
if you have VISTA, it has a "snipping tool". Search for it on your own computer. I added mine to Quick launch & use it any time I need it. When you click on it a screen pops up...You can then use the tool to draw around what you want & then save it as a jpeg. I love it.

Judy,
I am a bit late on this thread, but I wanted to add that I also use SnagIt and like it a lot. If you like jing, or Fastone, then continue with either of those!

Hi Linda ...
Do you find grab better than just using Command Shift 4 ?? ... I haven't used Grab before and wondered if it was better ??

I find that if I want a whole page(s) - as in a tutorial - that with the Mac - go to print and when the print display comes up - on the left bottom corner is a button that says "PDF". Click on the down arrow and then click "Save as PDF". follow the prompts and you end up having the entire page(s) in PDF format on your desktop - which can then be opened by Adobe Reader or Preview on mac.
That has saved me from piecing together long articles/tutorials.

Let's just say I find it more convenient than trying to remember command+shift+ 3 or 4. I keep the icon in my dock for easy access.
