View Full Version : New Posts Question for Rick

There are many times when I click on New Posts that I only get perhaps 6-10 posts. If I click on Quick Links and then click on Today's Posts then I will get what has been posted for the last couple of days. Other times clicking on New Posts I will get 2-4 pages of new posts (75-100 posts).

The thing that gets me is I have found more than one time in clicking on Today's Posts I will find new postings that are less than 24 hours old from the original posting, yet if I just click on New Posts they do not show up.

I understand clicking on Today's posts should indeed bring up all the newer postings. Why does that not also work when I click on New Posts, especially if they are less than 24 hours old?

Thank you for your response :)

Charles,

I've observed this, too, and have concluded that "new" is a very volatile state.

I observe that, upon accessing the site, clicking New gets me all messages posted since I last visited. However, if I delay clicking New for very long (i.e. I get into the Gallery and don't get back to messages right away), I only get very recent posts.

There's some sort of clock ticking that determines what's New, and what's not. I haven't defined it yet, but I've learned to go immediately into New messages or I'll have to do it the way you describe by asking for Today's posts - which isn't as nice because you don't get to jump right to the newest message (for you) in a thread.

Byron,

Thanks for replying. I am glad I am not the only that has this (minor) problem! :)

I've noticed it too, but I view EV from multiple computers (and operating systems), and have always chalked it up to going back and forth like that.

I can also chalk it up to the vagaries of vBulletin, but I'll put it on the list of things to investigate.

Charles,

I posted a thread about this over a year ago after I came back from a two week holiday, clicked on New Posts and got 'there are no new posts'!! I never know when I log on in the morning whether any new posts will show or not. Most frustrating.

Must admit that I just go by the orange backgrounds to the icons on the left ... and click on anyone of those that shows orange.

I've never found the new posts reliable

Wendy :)

You have to read fast. It seems to me that once I have been logged in about an hour clicking on new posts will show me only threads that have been posted to within the last hour. When I first log in in shows all threads that have been posted to since I last logged in.

If it's been awhile and there are multiple pages I will not be able to get through them all before the link doesn't work for them. When I have more than a couple of pages I start with the end page (oldest new posts) since those are the ones that are most likely not to show up in today's posts.

It would be nice if there is a setting somewhere that could extend the new post time from about an hour to longer. Maybeto 2, 3, 6 hours?

Sometimes I will log in and get sidetracked before I get to read anything in the new posts link and it will have expired before I get back.

I am glad i am not the only one that has had this problem!

Thank you Rick for being willing to investigate this! From what others have said here, it would be nice to get it fixed if that is even possible! :)

Don't hold your breath, Charles! I've been looking all day, and I can't see anything even remotely related to that setting. :D
