I have entered this problem at two other Elements forums with no responses in over 2 weeks so am trying this one next: I was having bogus empty folders appear daily in my Library Preferences folder on my iMac (10.5.7) A supposed expert on a forum told me the cause was a glitch in the TWAIN for my Epson Perfection 1240U scanner; that it wasn't needed and I should trash it. I did and the bogus folders stopped. However, so did accessing the scanner in Elements 6!

I downloaded (twice) the Epson driver & TWAIN and reinstalled three times. It never tells me where the files go on my HD and Com-F cannot find them. The scanner STILL refuses to come up in IMPORT along with the 2 PICT resources and video frame that were there before along with the Perfection 1240U. I have to do many additional steps to scan using Epson Scan and then later processing separately with Elements 6. Epson tech supp has been no help. If someone could just tell me specifically WHERE the scanner driver, TWAIN and IMPORT in E6 are located on my HD I think I could get things all in one place and it would work again. Won't somebody help me out please??

Checking my Mac (OS X Tiger), I found the following

HD>Applications>PSE6>Plug-ins>ImportModules>Twain plugin

also

HD>Library>Image Capture>Twain Data Sources>EPSON Perfection 1240.ds

You may want to read this discussion (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9295786#9295786). Although it does not address your problem, it talks about the "buggy" Adobe Twain.

If you cannot get things working properly, you may want to consider the software Vuescan (http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html)

You also might wish to consider using the Siverfast application that ships with epson scanners. i like it better than PSE scanning software as there are more adjustments that can be made at the time of the scan.

I have just run into this problem as I've recently moved up from G4 processor to an intel - using PSE 6.
In going to the Epson page for drivers for my scanner - it gives the drivers but also towards the bottom is a warning about using Epson Scan 2.77A in Adobe Photoshop CS3 and CS4 on Intel. As PSE is a subset of these programs - I checked the warning. It says:

Q: I get an error message when I open Epson Scan 2.77A in Adobe Photoshop CS3, CS3 Extended, or CS4 on my Intel-based Mac. What should I do?
A: Run Photoshop in Rosetta mode; Epson Scan 2.77A only runs in Rosetta mode.
Follow the steps below to run Photoshop in Rosetta mode:
Open the Hard Drive, select Applications > Adobe Photoshop, then select the Adobe Photoshop icon.

Hold down the Command-I keys to open the Get Info window.

Check the "Open Using Rosetta" option, then close the window.

Start Photoshop.

This worked for me - not as direct as the running on the power pc computer - a couple of extra steps - but at least it works.
