Hi everyone,
Here's some food for thought:
Random burglary or Twitter consequence? (http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/lifestyle/stories.nsf/travel/story/0436B8B7025FEC1A862575F4006E5182?OpenDocument)

I heard about this on the news a few weeks back and I've always been a bit paranoid about it. I never post when I'm going away on vacation until after I've returned and even with local plans I'm not too specific, ie: I might say "We have a party on Saturday and may watch a ballgame with friends on Sunday" but I don't say what day or if it's at home, away, etc. It's scary to think that you're being stalked that way.

I'm a regular at a Caribbean travel forum and this was discussed by a number of members. Many of us are quick to say "I'll be in Saint Martin the second week of June" or whatever. While most do not share much beyond the city we live in, it wouldn't be too difficult for a lurker to pick up enough info over the course of months to pinpoint our location, befriend us, or otherwise set us up for a burglarly.
Then there's the RFID in your new passport to consider...

Another thing to watch out for is funerals. We try to have someone housesit for us when we go to the funeral of a relative with our same last name. We're aware that some bad people read the obits, and rob houses during funerals. :(

I'm getting paranoid about facebook. I altered my profile and have limited who can see what. Then my DB (a noobie) put my telephone number in a wall post to his niece! I am so glad I check in daily to see what is happening, so I put a stop to that pretty fast....
Shar, when our DSIL passed away 4 years ago, the family thought I WAS paranoid when I insisted someone be designated to stay at the house. The whole town knew him and over 1,200 people were at his funeral...some others couldn't find parking or a place in the SRO areas of the church. It pays to be vigilant. This very thing happened recently in a nearby town.
