When I open a RAW image in Aperture and want to "open with external editor".........that being Elements.........it is converted to a jpeg. Is there a way to send a RAW image from Aperture to Elements?

Why?
If Aperture is closed, you can go to either the Organizer or PE5 and open the Image.
I would recommend that you have the highest version number of ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) which for PE5 is 4.6 from what I can see.
The more informed hopefully will add to this and correct me if there is anything that I missed.
Go here for the download, its free: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4036
of course thats if you don't already have it.
If you let us know what camera your using this information would also help in answering your question. In some of the later model cameras that can shoot Raw there images weren't supported by earlier versions of ACR. If you have one of these then you will be forced to go for a Higher version program.
For example, the CS2 version of Photoshop can only accept version 3.7 of ACR and there are a lot of later model cameras that weren't included in the Adobe package. So there Raw files couldn't be seen in the CS2 program.
I will sometimes open my Raw image in PE5 first so the later version of ACR can look at my image and then I will play a little bit there. Once I'm done, I will save this image and then open it in my CS2. Each later version of ACR has something slightly different that you can play with.

Hi Mark,
Just wanted to get back to you to thank you for your quick reply.........that I haven't had the time to try yet. We are going away and when I get back I'll have the time to see if I can figure this out. Although I have some very sophisticated equipment, I am way behind in my knowledge of how to use it!!!! But I continue to learn and am having fun with my new hobby.
I have Canon SLR D40
Aperture 1.5
PE Elements 6
PE comes with Bridge but from my readings it is recommended not to use Bridge if you are using Aperture.....so I will be interested to see if your suggestion works.........I would only use it for RAW images.
Thanks for taking the time to try and help me with this issue, I really appreciate it.

D'oh! I deserved that. Maybe I need to write yet more lines as punishment...
As for the original problem, I also use Aperture and edit with PSE6. Look in Aperture preferences > Export. I have 4 options available, TIFF or PSD (with 8 and 16bit versions of each). But no JPG option.
Now, as Aperture can edit the RAW file, and PSE6 uses Adobe Camera RAW handler, if you made some changes in Aperture and then told it to edit the RAW in PSE6, which version would it export? The original file or the modified-by-Aperture version?
I find 16bit TIFF plenty good enough for editing in PSE6 myself. YMMV.
Edit: My lack of reading properly will be the death of me... I use Aperture 2. The options in Aperture 1.5 may be different of course.

hi Meta4 ...
I was actually being a little diplomatic ... if you look at the post above mine then you will see that Mark (Notwood) said " If Aperture is closed, you can go to either the Organizer or PE5 and open the Image"
Ummm ... The Mac version doesn't have the Organizer and PS5 was a Windows only version so I wasn't too sure if I had missed something ??

Well Wendy, I think the version-number confusion is down to Mark, not you. He makes no mention of Aperture exports, and his advice about ACR is spot on for PSE5 on a Winbox...

OK, OK my bad.
I have never heard that
1 Aperature was a Mac Only
2 PE5 was a Windows Only so you both got me all around.

Hi HMCA,
I use Aperture 2 and I use that to make any adjustments to my RAW files. I only send the photos to PSE6 when I want to edit them beyond a bit of fine tuning and convert the image to TIFF for bigger enlargements.
All you do is "export" the master which will be an unedited version of the RAW file to the appropriate location and then right click and "open with" PSE6 and Adobe camera RAW will open the file and let you make some RAW fine tuning and then you can save it as a TIFF and work from there.
Hope this helps a bit.

Pooly,
Sorry I didn't respond sooner but we were away on vacation. I can't thank you enough for your SIMPLE(!!!!!!) solution to my problem. It seems to me that my Aperture program may not be accepting my RAW images as it should. I have a Canon 40D which came out after my Aperture edition which was the reason that I wanted to get it into PE6. It was interesting to me that you said you did your RAW editing in AP.2. Have been thinking of updating my Aperture program to 2.......but I was afraid of adding yet another program to learn....I'm pretty comfortable with 1.5. Also I have just ventured into occasionally shooting RAW. When you have time I would appreciate your thoughts on this.
Again many thanks for your advice.....you have no idea how crazy it was making me!!!!!
