Hi everyone,

A sign of the times -- Eastman Kodak to discontinue Kodachrome (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-kodachrome23-2009jun23,0,5125640.story).

Will they have to change the lyrics to that song now? :D

Very sad. Another era disappears. Couldn't tell you how many roles I shot since the 60's until 2005, when I got my first digital. Soon my film cameras will find their way into my camera history case. Oh, well.
(Heavy sigh)

Oh this brings back so many memories....my father took boxes and boxes of slide film on Kodachrome, back in the 60s.

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the worlds a sunny day, oh yeah
I got a nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama dont take my kodachrome away

I recall the beautiful colors Kodachrome gave us both at home and at the movies. The process almost enhanced the image.
Has any digital media been able to compare?

I shot lots of Kodachrome and Fujichrome over the years before switching to film and then digital. It is indeed sad, as much as I love the freedom of digital.

I so loved Kodachrome 25. When Fuji Film introduced Velvia, I saw the writing on the wall. It became apparent to me, then, with Velvia's vibrant colors, that it would be just a matter of time for Kodachrome 25, in particular. Never cared for Kodachrome 64 or 200. I still shoot chromes, in particular Velvia, Astia (for commmercial work) and Provia (for general work and including landscapes) Velvia does not scan as well as Astia and Provia, but I am still using the chromes I would say 40% of the time. Maybe their days are numbered as well, maybe not...who knows. Would they have to change the lyrics to the song...I hope not, for the sake of preserving the memories of what was at one time in our history the benchmark of color in all films.
