Hi Everyone,

I need some advice on where to put my textures that I downloaded from this site:http://florabellacollection.blogspot.com/2009/06/blog-post_03.html

Anyway, I paid for and downloaded them without instructions ( many people assume that you are already computer savvy. :) ) I followed the path that i thought would be correct> going through Adobe Photoshop 7> presets>textures. I am not at home so I dont' know the exact path, but it is the one that Johnny gave me for brushes.

So where should i put it so that it will be easily accessible on the Editor space? Should I put it with my Pictures or what?

thanks in advance for your help!:)

Charlotte, if what you downlaoded are full size "textures", what I call "backgrounds", you can store them anywhere (as long as you can find them again :D). I assume they are all JPGs in which case if you use Organizer, you can import them into the Organizer framework (aftre you decide where to file them) and keep track of them that way.

Hanging them in a folder off of My Pictures is OK if that's where you store other non-Organized stuff. If you store much of your stuff on external HDs than you can do the same with these.

It really depends upon your workflow and prefered file structure.

As for the Elements Textures, someone can correct me, but I think those are reserved for "seamless" textures, which are actually small blocks of a texture, that are then inserted multiple times, with all seems matching up so when it's done it looks like a seamless background.

As I recall I tried adding textures to the ones in Elements and it didn't work out as I had expected. Now I just stick to full size backgrounds for my work. Much simpler.

If you want to add textures into Elements (so that you can use them via Filter>Texture>Texturiser) then you have to change them to psd files.

... then they go in Presets>Textures :)

I dont' understand. I can find the textures under "textures" from "presets" but that is it. When I tried to open them in Editor, i get a message saying that it is the wrong kind of file.:mad::mad: It is in a zipped folder and if i right click, nothing happens and if i left click it tells me it is the wrong kind of file.:( please be very exact in telling me how to do this...I am not very bright in the computer arena.

Charlotte, a ZIP file is a single "archive" file in which all of the textures you purchased are stored. It must be "unzipped" or unpacked to extract all of the files for use. Usually, double clicking on the file in file explorer will launch the Archive utility if one is installed on your computer. Once the Utility program is launched, you should see a window listing all of the files. there should be an "Extract" button you can use to extract all the files into a folder of choice.

Once you get them extracted, you should be able to identify what kind of files (JPGs, PSD, etc.) they are. You should also be able to open them in Elements.

I visited the site, and I would guess from the files are all JPGs you simply open into Elements like any other image.

See if you can extract the files, then give us a hint as to what you find. If there were any "instructions" provided form the seller, please let us know what they say. You may actually find them "inside" the ZIP file with the texture files. It may have .TXT last name (extension), like "Readme.TXT"

I went and looked at the set you bought. Very Nice!!
But those kind of textures are meant to be added to your image separately.
Adding one or two textures above your image and changing the blend mode to overlay or softlight usually gives the correct effect.
I have loads of info on my blog about using textures on your images. It is one of my most favorite things.

Here is an image I added in my gallery as an example.

Charlotte,
Anything I download I have it set to go in the DOWNLOAD folder. On my desktop I have made folders such as: FONTS, BRUSHES, TEXTURES, BACKGROUNDS, etc. Once the downloads are finished downloading in the DOWNLOAD folder, I go to it & if a zipped file I unzip it. Then you can drag or copy it to the folder you want to keep it in.
When you open PSE to use one of these backgrounds hit File>Open....click on Desktop & go to BACKGROUND folder & find the one you want. It will open up in PSE just like you would open up a picture.
Ask if you need anymore help.
One more thing..With all of these downloads don't forget to burn on a disc or put them on an EHD because if your computer dies you will lose all of your precious folders.

You need to unzip these files before you try to do anything with them. Right click on the zipped folder and select extract all. It will ask if you want to put the extracted file in the same folder or make another one. You can then put them in a folder called textures, or something like that. You can then add them to your photos, pages, etc as a seperate layer and then use the blend modes, opacity, etc.

In agreement with Christell, it is really a good idea to store these and all your other images, kits, etc. on a EHD. It would be a shame for you to lose all your wonderful photos and creations. I have my stuff stored on 3 different EHD's. I would be devestated if I lost my work, especially of Kandace. By the way, you do beautiful work. I really enjoy looking at your photos and creations.
