I searched all over this forum for a straight forward answer to this without much luck, just bits and pieces not much on moving PSE7, and no two answers the same. I thought there might be a simple tutorial on this common action but I could not find it if there is one. I bought PSE7 on a CD and installed in on my laptop and worked with it for sometime. Now I have a new home computer and would like to move all that I have accomplished in PSE7 to my home computer with the least amount of headaches! I think it should be simple..? (backup catalog, etc.) but I just would like to have some instruction from a more advanced user of PSE7 to be sure of that. All my photos are stored on an external hard drive both the ones in my catalog and the ones not yet imported to it. When I download photos they go straight into my hard drive. I would like to run the external hard drive on my home computer in the same fashion. Also I was/am not sure I could install pse7 from my CD on two computers at the same time..? Do I need to uninstall it from my laptop before I can install it on my home computer? Never have registered it online I believe. Much appreciation for the correct steps in accomplishing this task.

Here are the key steps
On the old computer, in PSE, File->Backup Catalog (choose the external hard drive as the destination)
On the new computer, in PSE, File->Restore Catalog

You don't need to uninstall on one computer before you install on the new computer. You can have both running at the same time.

Thanks for the link and help, just what I was hoping for...confirmation I was on the right tract. Hope it goes as planned when I switch over. Any other advise still appreciated from anyone having done a similar computer swap.

Just curious about something....If I follow the above instructions, will I have a problem if the old PC is Win XP and the new PC is Win Vista? It appears that the folder names are slightly different on Vista, e.g., instead of "My Pictures" on XP, it's "Pictures" on Vista. Won't the Organizer catalog database be looking for "My Pictures" on the Vista PC?

The link I gave has all the details, just scroll down to the bottom where it says “Special notes if you backup from Windows XP and restore to Windows Vista”.
