View Full Version : Brush Blend Mode = "Behind" - What is it?

While tinkering today, I stumbled upon the Brush Tool Blend Modes and began playing to see what each does when using the Brush tool. The blend modes are similar by name to the Layer Blend Modes, and work somewhat the same way.

There are two "curious" ones, one called "Clear" and one called "Behind". "Clear" seams to "erase" to reveal the layer below, but I can not for the life of me figure out what "Behind" is supposed to do. I can't seem to make the brush do anything when it is selected.

Anyone know? I have looked in several books, all to no avail.

Thanks

Jeff

Jeff,

HERE (http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/glossary/ig/Blending-Modes/Blend-Behind.htm) is an explanation I found...

Apparently, painting in Behind mode only affects transparent areas, and leaves opaque pixels alone.

If you poke around that site, you will find explanations of many more blend modes.

Thanks Bryon! After reading this and going to the link and checking it out I had to laugh.

I was sure a lot of people were helped by this link. Only 1 comment? So I looked at how many viewed and over 130 views.

The link does a great job of explaining 2 odd duck blend modes as well as great stuff on other blends.

Thanks for sharing your time with us.
