View Full Version : OT: Useless Instructions.

My wife just came home with a small (cheap) alarm clock for our spare bedroom. No box, no instructions but supposedly a battery included.
Not a problem - men don't need instructions ;)
First problem was to get the back off to check out the battery. After a brief struggle the back came off. Yes, battery included - also instructions stating...
To activate the clock open the battery compartment door.....
Nothing about needing an X-ray machine to read the instructions first.
Yes, its another slow day here :)

Colin,
I am a fan of the unintentionally-funny instructions that come with some Chinese-made products... your clock seems to indicate that they're adding mystery to the experience, now!

Colin, are you sure your wife isn't playing with your mind?
It made me laugh.

Have you noticed that all of the do it yourself stuff now comes with screws that break at the slightest twisting. Every time my wife brings something new home for me to assemble or install I spend more time going to the hardware store to get extra parts than I do assembling. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Reminds me of a story I read years ago by Isaac Asimov. It was about two guys stuck building a space station who had great difficulty in assembling anything because of poor instructions.
So the 'bods' back on Earth designed a Robot that could assemble anything without instructions.
When it was shipped up to the space station and they opened the crate, they found it was in pieces and with a piece of paper saying something like....
Insert Screw A into hole B......

So Colin, the question that begs to be answered, did the clock work?:D

Yes, the clock works just fine. It's an extremely low power clock and you can't actually see the hands move but its absolutely right twice a day.
I haven't tried the alarm since its in another room from where we sleep and I can't reach the buttons.

That makes it a great Alarm Clock, you can't hit snooze, you can't throw it across the room you must get up and walk across the hall to shut that damn thing off. Hehe

So long as the clock is right twice a day, that's all that really matters...right?:D

Ric.....
Sure - any clock that actually works is never right. When you actually read the hands and the brain works out what they say, its too late.
With a clock that's stopped, that moment in time is captured with 100% accuracy. ;)

Yet another useless instruction.
My Canon Camcorder displays the following message when downloading...
While the Camcorder is connected to a PC do not disconnect the USB cable or Power Source.
So once connected it has to remain so forever.

I guess once you connect the camcorder to the PC, you can only video whatever is near the PC. Have you considered connecting the camcorder to a laptop? That way you can take the laptop anywhere as long as you have battery power! :D

Charles.....
What a great idea! They should have put that in the instructions.
