View Full Version : How to change "color" from white

Is there a tool that allows selection of white pixels and then use some kind of replacement tool to change them to a (non-white) color.

I have been able to change from one (non white) color to another very easily (e.g., red to blue) - - but the tools (e.g. the replace color tool) all seem to ignore/not function when trying to replace white.

The specific example I am working on now is trying to select a completely washed-out sky and change it to blue (with tree leaves intermingled with the sky as well).

thanks

Try the magic wand with contiguous unchecked and a low tolerance setting. With the selection active add a new layer and fill selection with shade blue of your choice. Instead of fill could also run a blue gradient on the new layer.

Thanks for the responses - - they worked.

Still no sure why, however, why PSE does not allow for "color" changes from white pixels. (White should still just be a numeric code within the program - - not sure why true color would be needed.) This would allow for quite a bit of flexibility in selections.

The replace color tool has virtually no effect on very light or very dark colors. It has always been that way, and I'm sure there are technical reasons why this is so. There is a third party tool that claims a broader effective color change spectrum, but I did not think it was particularly effective either, and eventually I uninstalled it. Can't remember the name.
