Hello All,
I came upon this site that makes an awesome halftone effect frame. Unfortunately this tut is for full Photoshop. Does anyone know how to get this effect in Elements? Check it out and...thanks!

Hi Lisa,
I take the easy way out. I use the Filter Forge Freepack-3 Frames plug-in. It contains a halftone frame with 9 presets. You can get it here (http://www.filterforge.com/download/).

Thanks so much! I'm afraid to admit that I have never downloaded a plug-in. But the effects in that plug-in look sooo temping! ;) I'll have to read up on how to do it! I'm going to check out that tut that Martha suggested first, thought. Thanks to both! If I figure it out I'll show you what I made.

Lisa,
It's very easy. The plug-in will install itself in PSE. All you have to do is download the file, click on it, and select "Run". When you open PSE, it will show up in the Filter Menu.

Sepiana, I've downloaded the Filter Forge Freepack-3 Frames plug-in, and keep getting a message saying it won't work on a project larger than 3,000 x 3,000 (somethings). So I made a tiny little object, and it still won't do anything for me but link me to the page where I have to buy the full version. Can you help me?

Okay....never mind. I guess what I was practicing on WAS more than 3,000 x 3,000 pixels, so I just tried it on something much smaller and it is working (very slowly....grinding....) LOL.
Thanks for the link.

Hi Shar,
I was about to reply to your question when I noticed you had the answer already. I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I've been trying to figure out what the problem was. I even checked the FAQ's at their website. It boils down to the image size as you already figured it out. The free filter doesn't work on any image above 3000 x 3000.
As to the filter speed -- yes, it's slow! Although I noticed the following -- if I create a composite layer and apply the filter to it, it seems to be a bit faster.

I've made it work on several photos now (the half tone filter). I even selected all the black with the magic wand, copied and pasted them to a new document, and made the half tone frame work by putting a photo over it and grouping it. That's REALLY fast. Of course, that doesn't work for any effect that has more than one color. But I saved the shape to use over and over again, and in any size I care to make it.
Thanks for your efforts....sorry you didn't see my 2nd posting earlier.

Hi there, my first post here! I've been reading and lurking, decided to come out of the shadows (dropped and beveled, of course!) I love this place!
Can you tell me if these plug-ins will work with Photoshop Elements 5? And would the installation instructions be the same? I realize that the name of this place is elementsvillage.com, but I've tried quite a few actions, etc. in my Elements 5 that were supposed to work, and I'm just not having any luck.
Thank you so much,
Sue

Hi Sue... welcome - glad you introduced yourself. I used to use PSE5 and all the plug-in filters I ever downloaded worked okay in PSE5. If they are free, you have nothing to lose to try them, I guess. You just put the 8bf file (or the folder it's in) here: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\Plug-Ins ....then restart Elements... they should show up in the Filters menu.
Actions are a little different... if they are written for Photoshop Elements they should work, but different versions of Elements install them differently, so you need exact instructions where to put the action files for them to work.

Diana,
Thank you so much for your answers. I have just sort of rediscovered my PSE 5 program (probably taking pictures of my 2 year old grandson! LOL!) and I've just been having so much fun playing with it. I asked my son who works with other Photoshop programs a few questions, he said, "Mom, you know there are actions and plug-ins that will do some of this stuff for you, right? Just Google it." It was so exciting!
I'm having a blast!
