I have created a number of slideshows containing slides with text - both photos with text information and "title" text-only slides. I now want to combine selected slides from these slideshows into one or more new slideshows. I can find nothing in "help" nor in printed "help books" .... any ideas ?

I don't know which version of PSE you are using, but in PSE7 (and maybe earlier ones), you can right click on a slide show and show the project items in the organizer. Select the items of interest and then create an album and add the selected items to the new album. Then right click a different slide show, select the items of interest and add them to the new album. Etc.
This will get you an album with the items you want and you can then make a slide show. I think you will only get the captions attached to the individual items. If you added text to slides in the slide shows, I think you will not get that.

Unfortunately you are short on details in your question.
Of prime importance is the format of the master slideshow from which you wish to draw source media for future slideshow projects. And, of course, what program created this master slideshow?
If the slideshow was created in Photoshop Elements, what versions of the master did you save...by any chance a save to the Organizer as a Project/Creation?
Do you have Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements and, if so, what versions?
