Trying to create a type mask in PSE4, I am unable to move the type mask over the area of the photo I need. The instructions do not mention how the mask may be edited.

Once you have your font color / axis . Use the move tool to change the location and size slightly . After its saved in a non elements location, you can't move combined layers .

Thanks, Nikonus, but I still am not clear.....I need to position the text over certain areas of the photo, and this appears to be impossible once the text has been typed in.

Either click on the text with the move tool ( one of the top two on the tool bar ) you should get a box around the text . Slide the center point to move,,, the edges to stretch the text / size change . if not ,,, look if its a selected layer , it should show the eye and brush symbol , next to the layer
I don't know your skill level ,,,

Hi purbrookian,
To reposition the text around in your image, hold the Ctrl key down and drag the selection around. You need to to this while the Type Mask tool is still activated (the red film is still covering the image). Don't commit your text until you're satisfied with its position.

Sepiana, Thank you. Using the control (Command on Mac, right?) key allowed the text to move, but left a 'text gap' where the text had been. Isn't there a way simply to move the text independently of the image? Sorry to be stupid.

After typing the text with the Text Mask tool, move your cursor down away from the text until the cursor turns into an arrow with what looks like a bold plus sign, then hold your left mouse key down and drag the text where you want it positioned over the image.
