Hi folks,
I was wondering how I could blend a word document (actually copied from an online picture) and a photo. Would i place it on top of a photo and then just change the opacity?
thanks for your kind attention!

Since you said an online photo, I am going to assume that "word document" does not mean an actual text box or MS Word file. To blend the two photos I just place the 2 photo on top of each other. Then have an adjustment layer inbetween them, and then selct the top photo, group it with the Adjustment Layer so that you can use the Layer Mask. Then use a Black to White gradient and apply it the Layer Mask so that the top photo blends into the bottom photo.

Johnny, when you say an adjustment layer, is that like when you use a Gausian blur and then "ctl> adjustment>click on the layer with the adjustment>Ctl G to group? And then go from there?

and no it is not a word doc, it is a photo of the Preamble to the Constitution.:)

Not a Filter (which is what the Gausian Blur is) an Adjustment Layer (Levels, Hue/Saturation, etc.) You will only need the Adjustment Layer for the Layer Mask. You can skip this step if you have Grant's Tools or Elements+ (or any other Layer Mask add on) and apply the Layer Mask directly to the top photo layer. Then just apply the Black to White Gradient to the Layer Mask and then the effect will be the top photo belnding into the bottom photo.

Johnny, thanks! I can't wait to try it when I get home. Wouldn't it be nice to just have all the time in the world to just do what we want to do before we get too old to enjoy it. LOL:)

For another interesting effect, especially if the text is black and the background is off-white or white, layer the text image on top of the photo. Then apply the Multiply blend mode to the text layer.

Hi Charlotte,

Here's the effect of using the Multiply blend mode on the documant:

And hhere's what happened when I converted the document to black and white before applying the Multiply blend mode:

hey y'all,
I am trying to open the "We the people .." doc but the Editor says that this is the wrong type of file. I did "save as" but the choices were not what i am used to. Any ideas?:(

When you saved it, what did you save it as? Did you right-click, Save Target As... then you get a drop down box for a list of choices. What are the choices?

When I did it, I have on JPG and BMP as my choices.
I saved it as JPG

When you do that you are saving the "web page" not the photo.

Alibony,
Thanks! I have it posted on Flickr for the 4th of July but have not had any feedback. Wonder if it is too controversial for most.:(

Hey, Steve, nice result! I like the elements you added to the image of the Declaration of Independence. A nice way to celebrate the day and honor the legacy of the founding fathers. I had actually just finished reading through the entire Declaration (http://www.ushistory.org/declaration/document/index.htm)before I popped in here, so seeing your compilation was a nice finishing touch! Happy Independence Day!

Thank you, I was just showing charlotte another option by using the eraser to feather the bottom edge

Happy 4th of July to all!

There is a Video on YouTube where a bunch of actors read the whole
Preamble to the Constitution.
It is very well done with major actors.

It is filed under History
http://videos.komando.com/2009/07/04/

Unfortunately I don't know how to post the YouTube address.

This links to the Kim Komando website and then to YouTube.

Worth the trip

PS: anyone knowing how to navigate YouTube - post a direct link please. Thank you!

Vesta,
You are very welcome! I sure did pick up quite a bit of knowledge from my fellow Villagers! I just love it here...just hope that I can contribute to someone else's understanding some day.:)
