View Full Version : Defining a brush

A while ago I made a brush that basically painted on the words "Photography by David Brown" I just made a text layer with the words on it, clicked on edit, define bush and hey presto I could easily add the text to photos.

Yesterday my neighbour asked me how to do a similar thing. So I went round and tried to show her but Define Brush was greyed out. I went back hop got my laptop followed exactly the same steps and was able to define the brush. To show her the method I tried again this time on a different file and this time Define Brush was greyed out on my laptop as well.

We are both using Elements 7 and the source files were JPEGs. Any idea what I am missing here? I cannot see what I am doing differently.

Hi David ...

When this happens its usually because you are trying to define something that is too big ... Elements actually has a size limit of 2500 pixels for brushes.

Make it a little smaller and try again ... hopefully it will then work :)
