Actions in PSE6

Hello All. I'm just starting to read up on Actions. Never used them before. Were are they in PSE6? Are they the slide bars in the guided editor? Thanks for helping a newbie.....

Hi ...

Actions are sort of little programs that you can run automatically ... and they can save you a lot of time. Elements can't create actions but it can use them ... sadly Adobe made them pretty difficult to install as they change the method with nearly every version of Elements.

There are several sites around that offer them ... but it really depends on what you want the action to do.

Hi,

If you're using Elements 7, here's how u can install the actions.

1 -Download ATN files from sites like the one Wendy mentioned.

2 - Place them at:
C:\Users\<userID>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Presets\Actions.- Vista
and
C:\Documents and Settings\<userID>\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Presets\Actions - XP

In Guided Edit, Under Automated actions -> Action player, Select the Action from the dropdown.

Click done and you're action gets applied. Some actions are specific to Photoshop and some options might not be available.

It's important to make sure that any actions you get are written for PSE as many are written for Photoshop (CS2/3/4 or earlier) and won't work in PSE.

The Action Player in guided edit is new with PSE7, so you won't be able to run actions in guided edit with PSE6. You would run actions from the Effects palette in PSE6, as I remember, it's the third icon.
