I am using PE 6.0 on a PC with Windows XP Home. Within PE, I moved my folders from my C drive to a new external HD. I have over 11,000 photos. After the move successfully finished, I looked at what I have. I have very few photos on the new HD, and very few folders and photos left on the C drive. I have lost almost 10,000 photos! I can't find them on the C drive nor on the new drive (J)!
I am extremely upset and can't figure out where they went and how to retrieve them!
Please advise! I'm lost!

Thanks,
Carol Warren

Hi Carol, I logged in to look for advice on file organization and maintenance. I had the same problem as you have (I think). About the only thing I can say to help is that they are probably still on your hard drive somewhere. If you can come up with identifiers of some of the missing files you can use the Windows Search tool to locate where they are - Start, Search -. My files are scattered around in My Documents, Documents and Settings, etc. I don't think I have lost any thing but I would like to have things better organized.
My guess is that you haven't deleted anything. Maybe a System Restore might work but check with someone who knows more than I do. It has saved my skin a few times. Best wishes!

Hi -- If you ascribe to the old saying, "misery loves company" know that you're not alone in your frustration today. Guess what I'd like to ask you is if you do find an answer to your dilemma, can you come back here and post it. I was just trying to "move" some pix from my organizer on my desktop to a jump-drive (says it's a J drive" to download onto my laptop. Now, everything I had on my desktop has one of those disconnected icons on it, and no way can I find any way to re-connect. Searched and searched through "my pictures" and those particular photo files don't even show up there anymore. I'm completely lost too. So if any enlightenment comes your way, would be most grateful if you would care to share it. Good luck (and to me too). Nancy

Well, I don't use the Organizer which I view as a seriously flawed piece of business and a minefield for the unwary. However, if your System is Windows I can offer this: go to Start » Search. Then click All files and folders and where it says All or part of the file name type in *.jpg (assuming they are .jpg files - otherwise type in the appropriate file extension). The asterik is a wild card and the Search should bring up every .jpg file on your drive no matter where it is located. If your hard drive is partitioned search all appropriate partitions. External drives could be searched in the same manner.

Thanks for all your sympathetic responses. Now that I've calmed down abit, I see that my files are on the J drive, but PE Organizer doesn't want to connect to them. It gives the error message that the item is already in the catalog (but it's not).
I've seen a few times comments that the Organizer is flawed and some people don't use it.
I've made sure that "Hidden" files are allowed. I'm not aware of any other ways to open these files in Organizer.
They were catalogued and viewable on the C drive but now that I've moved everything to the J drive, they are not viewable (says they are already in the catalogue).
Is this because they have the same file name as in the previous drive? Does everything need to be renamed?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Carol W
