I just switched from a PC to a Mac and I am stuck with this dilemma.
I had been using Elements 7 on my PC. Should I now switch back to Elements 6 for the Mac? Can I / should I go backwards?
I greatly appreciate your thoughts...

Congrats on getting a Mac! The most current version for the Mac is v6, though I've heard there's not a whole lot of difference between v6 and v7 (though I don't work on a PC myself). I spend a lot of time in v6 on the Mac though, and I love it :)

Speaking from first hand experience with both programs since I just switched to a Mac a few months ago:
There's not a lot of difference. The short-cut keys have different names, but that's all I've been able to see that's different. Also, on a Mac you'll use iPhoto as the organizer (if you don't use something else). PSE6 (Mac) doesn't come with the Organizer like PSE7 (windows) does. The paths to the the actual files on the computer are different, but there's always help around here to tell you where to go look for something or install something.
Some people have said that you can get a disc from Adobe to change the platform, I didn't have any luck with that myself, but other's have done it. Wendy might come along and answer that one for you.
It's not really a "downgrade". The Mac versions are only even numbers. So, basically, PSE6 (Mac) is about the same as PSE7 (Windows).
I, for one, am glad I switched, I love my Mac. :D

I have the MAC with PSE6 and CS4. PSE6 is not really going backwards. PSE6 does come with Bridge instead of the organizer, which in my opinion is much better than the Organizer once you get to understand it. Bridge is a true browser, whereas the Organizer is a look up routein. With Bridge, you can move, rename, delete files using either Finder or using Bridge and the other browser will see the changes; with Organizer, you cannot change files outside of PSE as it looses the connection link and gets very confused, as you can see by looking at several posts in this forum about Organizer issues.
I would go for it.

Oh Yeh, Joe! I forgot about Bridge! I am slowly getting used to that one too. ;)

Glassfund, I doubt that PE 7 is any better than PE6 for Mac, however, if it were you'd still be ahead just in the Mac's ease of use.
As Joe_Kostoss points out, Bridge is great. You can do all that he lists without any problems.
In fact, unless you have thousands of photos you don't have to use iPhoto for storage.
Store your photos in folders named for the event, date or subject. Put these folders in a folder named Photo Archive on your HD. You can access them thru Bridge.
Just click on any folder and it's contents will be displayed on your screen in one of several layouts.

Hi Glassfund ...
... and welcome to the Village :)
I would tend to go for PSE6 for the Mac ... you can get a platform switch disk from Adobe and it will only cost you a few dollars.

I decided to stick with Elements 6 for Mac for now. I may go to the full photoshop in the future.

Glassfund,
I work for the worlds leading windows PC hardware company, and, I purchased a MAC. I got tired of all the virus, and the numerous problems with Vista. I don't regret making this move. The Apple operating environment is the best, and extremely easy to use. I couldn't be more happy. You made the right move.
