It was raining and the flowers were wet. I am learning to use my new D40 and it is coming along good so far.

Great shot Tina!! I like the details as well as the colors.
What lens did you use for this?
I have a couple of questions for you for discussion:
Did you shoot this in Raw?
If not, what color space on your camera were you using for this image?
Did you use Auto White Balance for this image?
There are usually two sRGB color spaces. The first one is mostly for better skin tones. The second is for a more green effect like foliage. The third color space is an Adobe inherint propriatory called aRGB which has a larger color pallet for a lot more color space. I always have my camera set on this one.

I did shoot This in Raw and I am just learing to make the adjustments in ACR.
Here is the lens that I have on Af-S DX Nikkor ED 18-55 mm and a UV filter.
After the adjustments in ACR I opened it in PSE and selected the flower and used a painted technique I learned from Westimom/Anita. While selected I did select inverse and then used a kaleidoscope filter to make the background, lowered the opacity on that. Then just deselect and that was the end.
I am just learning white balance and all that kind of stuff so I am probably not giving you the answers to all the stuff you asked me .
Thanks for taking the time to ask me questions it makes me want to learn more.
