Hi all,

Starting with the May/June 2009 issue of Photoshop Elements Techniques, we instituted a new section called Subscriber Showcase. This section will include photos and projects created by magazine subscribers, and can either be entirely original work, or the results of tutorials published in the magazine or on the Web site.

If you would like to submit something you've done, the first thing to do is can post your image here in the Elements Village Gallery (http://www.elementsvillage.com/gallery/). You can post your work in any of the current three categories (Scrapbooking, Retouching, or Photography), and, on the Upload Image screen, make sure you enter "PET-showcase" exactly as shown (without the quotes) in the Keyword field. You can enter any other keywords, but using that one will ensure that your image is seen by us. (If you already have uploaded images to the Village gallery, you can add the keywords by going back to your image and choosing Edit Image from the Image Tools menu above your image.)

Also - and this is as important - please put in the description field a note about which tutorial or video you used when creating your image (if applicable). There are a lot of tutorials out there, and it helps us, especially for some of the more subtle effects.

One of us will also post a note in this forum about a week before submissions are due, so you can either upload images you would like to be considered for the Subscriber Showcase, or nominate other entries you think are worthy.

Initially, we will be focusing on images created with the projects in the magazine (like Diana's selection or Johnny's multiple-personality techniques from the May/June issue, or the textures and black-and-white editing tutorials from the March/April issue), videos (like Corey's recent Designing with Shapes video from the Videos (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/subscriber/videotips.php) section), or any of the many tutorials (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/subscriber/tutorials.php) and scrapbooking projects (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/subscriber/scrapbooking.php) posted on the Elements Techniques site from Wendy and others.

If your image is selected, you'll receive an email from me with specifics about how to upload a final, print-ready version of your image, but we will need to ensure two things:

Your permission to print this image in the newsletter for this one-time use, along with a statement that this image is your work, and your work alone (if it incorporates other individuals' work, we would need to have permission rights from those people as well; if you are incorporating scrapbooking elements from commercial sites, we will just need to make sure that this usage is covered under the sale rights). You will retain all copyrights to the image; our sole interest is to display the creative talents of our subscribers.

You also need to affirm that you used Photoshop Elements as the primary editing/compositing tool in creating this image.

The July/August submission deadline is June 10; submissions for the September/October issue will close on August 5. (I'll post a schedule with a subsequent message here.)

Thanks,
Rick

Two side points:

As I noted, this is currently for subscribers to P.E.T. We are looking at sponsoring some of the current contests by all EV members, but we also don't want to "intrude" upon some of the established systems in place.

You can continue to post your work to the Gallery (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/) on the Elements Techniques site, but that gallery will be closing with the new site redesign (slated to happen before the end of 2009), and we will be using the Elements Village gallery as the primary gallery for all users. We will continue to have regular image contests on the new site, and will post more information as the site launch gets closer.
