Hey, I have encountered a problem. I have Photoshop Elements 5, and premier elements 5. I have edited a filmstrip in Photo shop, the instructions I have from the net are to save it as a .flm file then import it in premier, however that format is not offered in photoshop when I try to save. How do I get it saved in order to export or import into premier?
Or is there another option that doesn't make me redo all the editing.

Could you please post the link where you saw the instructions to transfer the Photoshop Elements slideshow as a .flm file?

There is no Premiere Elements 5, so can I assume that you are working with Photoshop Elements 5 and Premiere Elements 3? The comments to follow are based on the assumption that you goal is to create a DVD-VIDEO version of your Photoshop Elements 5 created slideshow.

If so, the two output options that would seem in order are:

1. Send to Premiere Elements (the as is, non .wmv route) which will allow you to Break Apart Slideshow once the slideshow is in Premiere Elements 3 and you decide you need to edit further. You can use this route even if you decide that you do not need the Break Apart Slideshow perk. Some claim this route gives better end product quality.

2. Save As File Movie (.wmv) Once you have saved the .wmv (with a file size setting of NTSC or PAL DVD), you go to Premiere Elements 3 and bring in the .wmv from the hard drive saved location, using Premiere Elements 3, Get Media/Files & Folders. This route does not have the "further editing" perk of the Send to Premiere Elements output option. As I suggested above, some claim this route gives lesser end product quality than the Send to Premiere Elements Route. But, I have not found that to be the case.

Please review the comments, fill in any gaps, and let me know if any of the comments helped.

Yes - you are right it is Premiere Elements 3, got it in a package.
I tried the suggested way. There is no option for .wmv, and by "non.wmv" you meant anything other than that. I tried .psd, since premiere accepts it, but the program locked up. Maybe tiff? I don't know.
Thank you for the help.

Do you have Photoshop Elements 5 and Premiere Elements 3.0.2 installed on the same computer?

If so, I am assuming that you are creating the Photoshop Elements 5 slideshow in the Photoshop Elements 5 Slideshow Editor accessed via the Organizer.

If so, there is no option there to output the slideshow as a .psd. (A PFD slideshow is another matter and omitted from this discussion for now.) When you build a slideshow in the Photoshop Elements Slideshow Editor it is in the form of an Organizer creation. If you just save it to the Organizer it is label "Creation" and cannot go outside the Organizer until it is converted specifically to a .wmv file (with the file size that you design in the dialog box before the writing of the .wmv). See further explanation below. This .wmv needs to be saved to a hard drive location as well as to the Organizer. So, then you would have two thumbnails in the Organizer related to this Photoshop Elements 5 slideshow, one with a creation tag (does not go out of the Organizer version and can be further edited there) and the other the .wmv (cannot be further edited in Photoshop Elements Slideshow Editor) with a video tag.

You can highlight the .wmv (video tagged) thumbnail in the Photoshop Elements Organizer and use File Menu/ and select Send to Premiere Elements. Or, you could open Premiere Elements 3, Get Media/Files & Folders and navigate to the .wmv at its saved location on the hard drive and bring the .wmv to the Premiere Elements 3 Timeline.

All that is what you had to do before the integrated pairs of Photoshop Elements 5 and Premiere Elements 3. With the start of this pairing, you could still do as above, but now you have the Send to Premiere Elements as an output option (non .wmv) where the slideshow as is is placed on the Premiere Elements 3 Timeline with an option there to break the slideshow apart if you decided to do more editing of the slideshow on the Premiere Elements side.

Important: you need to have both Photoshop Elements 5 and Premiere Elements 3 installed on the same computer to get the Send To Premiere Elements output option to be available/visible for use.

Maybe let us backup up and do some basics...open Premiere Elements 3.0.2, set your project preset at NTSC DV Standard, then with Get Media/Files and Folders try to import some photos into the Premiere Elements 3.0.2 Timeline. Does that work? If you have your Photoshop Elements 5 slideshow saved as the .wmv version, then in Premiere Elements 3.0.2 Get Media/Files & Folders navigate to the hard drive save location for the .wmv and bring it into the Premiere Elements 3.0.2 Timeline that way. Does that work?

Depending on how things go, please cite the Premiere Elements 3 documentation that you used before posting this thread . Did the product that you received and are using come in an Adobe box? Is there any indication that you received it as a previously owned program?

To be continued....
