I get a notice telling me there is an update and when I start the installation an error message "Patch failed to apply."
"Backup Synchronization Update Failed to install"
:(
Any ideas on how to get this installed so every month this will be put to an end, the cycle is a waste of time.
Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,
I will research this a little further, but....
1. Can I assume that you have using Premiere Elements 7??
2. If so, if you click on the Edit Menu, select Preferences from the drop down list, and then select Background Synchronization, do you find Background Synchronization set for ON or OFF?
To be continued....

Jerry,
Have you seen this Background Synchronization information included in the Premiere Elements 7 PDF

Besides the ON OFF setting for Backup Synchronization in Edit Menu/Preferences/Backup Synchronization......
Have you "signed up" for the free Photoshop.com membership in the Premiere Elements 7 interface and are you "signed into" it when you get the update messages?

I purchased Premier and Photoshop at same time. Never used Premier yet since I own Proshow Producer 4.0 and work with it.
Checked Backup/Sync and got this message "The current catalog is not configured for Backup/Synchronization with Photoshop.com. " so I did the sync and I do have a photoshop.com account.
Went back in and did update, received message patch failed.
Yes I signed up and am logged in.

Jerry,
I do have Photoshop Elements 7 and Premiere Elements 7 and use both. I am signed up for the free Photoshop.com membership, but do not use the Back Up Synchronization for any uploading from albums to Photoshop.com. In other words, free membership is in effect, the Back Up Synchronization is ON, and I just ignore it.
All that being said, I went into my Photoshop Elements 7 and created a new catalog so that I could simulate what you said that you did. I went through the whole process and, at no time, did I get the message that you described.
I do not remember ever getting any update messages for Back Up Synchronization from Photoshop.com or Adobe. Except for Camera Raw updates, I have yet to see any updates/patches for Photoshop Elements 7 or Premiere Elements 7.
I think that you did not post in the forum here where you would mostly likely find the answer to your Photoshop Elements 7 related question. So, I would suggest that you repost your question in the General or Advanced Forum of this web site.
HOWEVER, please let me know how all that turns out. If you do not get a quick and great response in those other forums, please return here and I will dig deeper to get that answer for you somehow. Are there any details that you forgot to mention that you think might help me get on the right path with this one?
Good luck.

Sorry for the slowness in responding. We just got back from vacation and I started to getting back to semi-normal tasks. lol
Latest update is that I actually just received another auto update less than a week ago and it said there was an update for both PSE7 and PRE7 and when I selected the PSE7 one it tried to do something and then an error message stating that the patch failed to apply and update was cancelled. Since I have seen this before for PRE7 I did not try the one for PRE7 and just closed the update notice.
Now I have been having a new problem see my new post.
Thanks JT

Jerry,
I have just posted a AdobeTech Note link for you to check out in your thread in the General Forum here.
The link to Jerry's General Forum thread about the Photoshop Elements problem is:

I have never run into the update messages that you are describing. Have you run a virus scan lately? How long have you had Photoshop Elements 7/Premiere Elements 7? Check with Adobe to see if you quality for the free installation troubleshooting that Adobe offers for latest, purchased, registered version.
Please let me know what is happening.

Tomorrow I am flying to Denver, but will try tech support solution when back.
My system runs a defrag weekly, virus scan daily plus monitored real time, spyware daily and also monitored real time.
Will post if a reason is found and a fix was provided.
