Unfortunatley, a number of video clips I want to use were shot with the noise of a computer in the background and I would like to filter out that frequency. I tried using Audacity but I can't seem to get the noise level filtered out without adversely affecting the audio of the voice of the subject. Any other good software programs out there that might work better than Audacity? I'd hate to have to re-shoot.

The Camtasia software has a great audio enhancement feature that made my use of an inexpensive desktop microphone sound like use of a very expensive microphone for some video tutorials that I was working on. The software is expensive. You could look at the tryout and see if it does the job for you.

The following is a video tutorial re: removing audio noise with Audacity. You might want to give it a look to see if you have followed the route that the presenter shows.

Adobe Soundbooth and/or Adobe Audition also do great work with audio.

Adobe Soundbooth is probably less expensive than Camtasia (if I recall maybe $200 vs $300 US dollars).

Audio Audition is probably the more expensive of the software mentioned (if I recall maybe between $350 to $400 US dollars).

I would give Audacity another look and then decide.

If the sound of the computer and the voice are too close to the same frequency it will be impossible to filter it out with any tool. Have you tried the Notch Filter in Premiere Elements?

Have you seen the Bill Meyers Audacity video tutorial whose link was posted earlier in this thread?

I did try Audacity again and learned how to make the sound a little better but not great. But for my current project it is now moot as I will not be using the footage I was trying to clean up. But I was happy to experiment with it and learned a lot.

That Audacity is a great (and free) program. That tutorial cited gives some good tips on how to use it best. If you ever get a chance, download the tryout of Camtasia Studio 6 and take a look at its audio enhancement..very impressive, but the software is expensive.
