Does anyone know of a tutorial online for spin blur and ripple effect? Thanks.

What are you trying to create with the Ripple Effect?
Ripple Effect.....
As you OK with the basics.. with video or photo highlighted
Edit Mode (Orange Tab)
Effects
Video Effects
Distort/highlight Ripple and click Apply
Then Edit Effects and make the adjustments with the sliders to obtained the Ripple Effect wanted. At the bottom of the dialog is a rectangle with an eyedropper next to it. You can apply the color of your choice to the edge areas created by the Ripple. You can double click the rectangle to bring up the color picker and pick a color for those areas. Or you can click on the eyedropper and then a color in the image in the Monitor to obtain the color fill for those areas.
What are you trying to create with the Spin Blur?
Spin Blur....
Edit Mode (Orange Tab)
Effects
Video Effects
New Blue Motion Effects Elements/spin Blur
But, here is the catch with this one. You are not going to get your hands on this unless you subscribe to the non free Photoshop.com PLUS. Have you done that or are you willing to do that to obtain use of this Spin Blur Effect?
I will see what I can find online, but your best approach is to explore and experiment.

Yes, I paid for the upgrade to get the spin blur. I thought it a little silly to have it sitting there, but I couldn't use it. Much to my dismay, I paid. I have to make a swim team video for my kids summer swimming. I got the picture to spin that I wanted, but not exactly sure HOW I did it. I just kept changing things. I will check out the link you gave me. Thanks.
Ripple...does it actually move?? I was trying to make it look like water rippling. I guess I was hoping it would look like moving water.

Ripple does move when played back.
This morning I was experimenting with it. I had a video clip of a goose walking across a parking lot. I applied the Ripple Effect to it, and, when played back, it made the goose look like a puddle in rippling water as a result of my experimenting with the setting under Edit Effects. So imagine what you could do with just plain water. I had to leave that experiment at this stage since I had other activities that were pending.

It does amazing things with water images for free :)

This looks really cool. I downloaded it and tried to open it in premiere but got a error massage. I am not computer savy enough to get around it.

It is a separate program. You import a still image of some form of water and it will create a AVI file with motion added to the water. There are lots of settings but it isn't too hard to figure out. There are instructions at the web site posted above.
This is why Motion Backgrounds and DVD Templates can be worth a few dollars, just depends on how much time you want to spend trying to do it yourself. Lots of people don't want to take the time, they just buy them already made, and I am thankful for that too :)

The Shear Energy Effect in the New Blue link posted by ATR is good. I was looking at that in version 7, but since you have version 4 I don't think it is included in that version.
I have spent well over $5000 on software to create backgrounds, templates and graphics. Lots of plugins, After Effects, Premiere Pro. With HeroGlyph I could do this effect in about 10 minutes, it costs money to save that much time ;)

Give it a try, and, if you hit a block, I will try to find time to download the program and work with you to get you moving forward.
Some of the programs that you use to supplement a Premiere Elements goal can tend to be confusing. Some are separate programs which you use to create a file to bring into Premiere Elements. Others will install as Premiere Elements plug ins. In those cases, you access the filter/plug in from within Premiere Elements.
To be continued, if necessary

I do have premiere 7 and I have paid for the upgrade so all of the bluething effects should work for me......I can make the ripple move now and the spin spin, but it is just randomly changing controls. I wish I understood more what I was actually doing.
I think I will pay for some things on your website, Chuck. The template is perfect. I am still not really sure what I do with the SD motion; will that actual background always show or does it make ANY water move? Where can I see some samples of this used? I really do apologize for my ignorance. Oh, do you have a bubbles motion?
I will also work on my latest free download and go back to the website for directions. You are lightyears ahead of me, so what looks easy to you may be greek to me, but I REALLY appreciate you help and imput.

Good morning.
Are you talking about previewing one of CE's SD Motion Backgrounds before buying one?
If so, no problem, at no cost. Click on the static picture of the SD Motion Background that you want over there. That should bring up a window which shows the SD Motion Background in Motion.
Under
SD Motion Backgrounds
Sports
jump to pages 3 and 4 for some water related ones...each shows the background in motion (with the water rippling..)
Do not worry about asking questions here, big or small. And, do not be afraid to explore and experiment. Great discoveries and creations have come from that.

cjcarsten, You already have instructions for viewing the backgrounds from ATR, thanks ATR :)
We have a search available for the products, just a quick search for 'Bubbles' provided these results
http://muvipix.com/products.php?searchphrase=bubbles
The DVD Templates are version 3, so you should not have any problems with them in versions 4 or 7. There is a free Swimming DVD Template on the complimentary page, did you see that?
http://muvipix.com/products.php?subcat_id=37
There are others in the Subscriber's Section as well.
And yes, the water background should move on the DVD Templates. You can replace the background if you want to, just takes a little work in Photoshop Elements.
Let me know if you have any other questions :)

What did you mean by
And yes, the water background should move on the DVD Templates. You can replace the background if you want to, just takes a little work in Photoshop Elements.
Are you referring to replacing the background of your web site's DVD Template by going into the .psd file of that template in Photoshop Elements and replacing the background layer in that file?
The reason that I asked is because it appears that the sole reason for going after one of your products is to get a specific water and/or bubble related template without having to do the creation yourself. So, if you are going to replace the background, why not just use one of those templates that came with Premiere Elements and change the background in Premiere Elements Create Menus??

I am still not really sure what I do with the SD motion; will that actual background always show or does it make ANY water move?
I was trying to answer the question above, that the backgrounds don't always have to show and that you can change them if you desire. So the DVD Templates can be used to create multiple templates by just adding a different background.
The Motion Backgrounds are usually used to lay images over the top of, like a slideshow. There are samples here http://www.chuckengels.com and there is a tutorial on "Using Motion Backgrounds" that gives a number of suggestions for their uses. I am going to ask Ron to move it to the free section so you can see how they work. I will let you know when Ron has moved it to the free area. He is also going to move a Steve's Tip on the same subject to the free area as well, enjoy :)

Thanks for making putting those videos on a Complimentary basis.
But, I would like to add this note for cjcarsten in case she is unfamiliar with gaining access to your complimentary offerings.

When you open the link here to CE's videos on his web site, you will see two options for each of the videos that you are being referred to:
Log In (that is if you are already a paid subscriber to that web site)
Register (Absolutely free)..this is, you register at no charge, giving the requested information. And, then you can view at no charge the video that you have selected. (I do not know if all this allows you to download the video as well as view on the spot.)

:)Ok, Thanks to all you your help, I know have a super cool DVD template, and a super cool SD motion background. How do I get text on my new super cool SD motion background? I have opened it in Photoshop 6 and premiere 7 and I can't figure it out. You guys are so awesome.

Simply add a title over the top of the background. Click on the little 'T' at the bottom right of the monitor, then type in your text. You can go into the Titler and make more elaborate titles or use the templates that already exist.
You can create the title in Photoshop Elements as well, just make sure you have a transparent background and save it as a PSD to import into your Premiere Elements project.
Check out the tutorials on titles at Muvipix, there are some free ones ;)

hello again!! I am a she, but not a blond because what I will tell you next you will think for sure I am a blond. I have missed all of the last threads b/c I didn't see the little next page buttons at the bottom of each page, so I have missed many of ATR and Chuck's messages. Slowly, but surely I am figuring it out.
Chuck, I did download the swimming DVD template and a SD motion background for free on your website. You rock. I will now go to the tutorials. I think in photoshop I forgot to add another layer to the water and then try to add type. I will keep trying. Must run pick up carpool.
Thanks to both of you!

Hi CJ,
Glad to hear you are getting things figured out :)
I think it would be easier to do the title in Premiere Elements, you might want to give that a try.

I can give you step by step for either Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements or both with regard to title suggestions.
With those SD Motion Backgrounds which are probably .avi video, we need to talk Titles in Premiere Elements.
Are we still on course for DVD-VIDEO Standard or Widescreen? Remember, if you are working on a DVD Menu Template from CE's side, check if you have a standard or widescreen version. The DVD Menu Template format should be the same as the project preset or else....
You can use the following examples to decide if you have downloaded the DVD Menu Template version that will agree with your Premiere Elements project preset...either NTSC DV Standard or NTSC DV Widescreen.
for a widescreen/DVD main menu, the file name would include what I have put in bold type
school_pal_w_mm.psd
for a widescreen/DVD scene menu that would go with the above, the file name would include what I have put in bold type
school_pal_w_sm.psd
for a standard/DVD main menu, the file name would include what I have put in bold type
school_pal_s_mm.psd
for a standard/DVD scene menu, the file name would include what I have put in bold type
school_pal_s_sm.psd

I forgot about the little "T" in the bottom right corner; I was trying all kind of ways to add text. I did watch several tutorials on that last week, but brain overload since then. Got it done and animated too.

Thanks guys for all of the help and encouragement.
Hey chuck, I am looking for an underwater motion background with fish. I didn't see one to buy. I would love to take pics of swim team kids holding their breathe and nose like underwater and place them in your bubbles background and I also thought fish swimming around would be really cute. I am assuming I can cut the kids out in photoshop and place on the background? I will take the pics against blank wall to make it easier. This is my latest brain storm. Am I reaching for the stars?

Photoshop Elements may be the answer for the cutouts, BUT check out the Premiere Elements feature called Videomerge. It is in Effects/Video Effects and you can apply it to your image of the people on that solid background. Application of the Videomerge Effect to the image should make the solid background transparent.
You put the image which has the people with the transparency that you created with Videomerge on Video Track 2 and your background image on Video Track 1.
Check it out.

cjcarsten,
After you try the Videomerge, then we need for you to take a look at Video Effects/Effects/Keying...Chroma Key, Blue Screen Key, and Green Screen Key.
Think of Videomerge as sort of an automatic version of Chroma Key. All sorts of fascinating effects in Effects.
