Can PE7 rip clips from a DVD ISO to be inserted into a PowerPoint slide?
I have a bunch of home videos that I converted to DVD years ago. I want to edit some of the clips and insert them into a PowerPoint presentation that we are doing for a family reunion.
I know from PE4 that I can get and edit clips from the ISO files on a DVD but it seems that PE4 could not convert the files to a usable format such as AVI or MPEG.

It works with Premiere Elements 4 and 7, but let me give you the details:
Premiere Elements 4 and 7
DVD ISO, I interpreted that as the VIDEO_TS Folder that you get using Premiere Elements burn to folder and that you subsequently saved to a DVD disc for generating DVD-VIDEO at a later time.
What I did:
1. To get the "iso files", the Timeline content was burned to Folder to give me my VIDEO_TS in the saved folder on the hard drive.
2. Using Premiere Elements Get Media, Files & Folder, I imported the VOB into Premiere Elements Timeline from its hard drive location, and from there exported to DV AVI via File Menu/Export/Movie.
3. I tried to import that DV AVI into a Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 slide via Insert/Movie from File. BUT IT WOULD NOT ACCEPT IT.
4. HOWEVER, if I first placed the DV AVI in the Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 Clip Organizer and then went Insert/Movie from Clip Organizer, no problem and movie was placed on slide.
5. It was interesting to note that if I tried to place a .wmv movie into a PowerPoint slide, the Insert/Movie from File DID WORK. I have not tried to use a MPEG movie yet.
You usually see users who have a DVD-VIDEO end product and want to rip the VOBs from it using Premiere Elements. The route for that is the Premiere Elements Media Downloader. That is very effective for many, but for others there are problems, quality and otherwise. For those with the problems, the workaround is usually using MPEG Streamclip to convert the VOBs into DV AVI and then bring the DV AVI version to the Premiere Elements Timeline. I know in your case you just have the files that would go into the DVD-VIDEO and not the DVD-VIDEO. But, I bring this up in case you are observing quality problems in what you are doing.
Please let me know if I have targeted your issue and if you can replicate my results.
