this week's challenge should prove a lot easier. The theme is public art.

Everyone is invited to participate.
Because the purpose of the weekly theme is to get us more familiar with our cameras and to sharpen our photographic skills, entries should be taken during the week of the theme.
Photoshopping is allowed.

Introducing "The Sentinel." This is the latest, and perhaps most controversial, public art pieces in my town. Some say it is a bejeweled gearshift. Others call it things I can't write here. But it produces dialogue, and that's what you want in art. It cost $128,000 and was part of a $777,000 improvement to the intersection, to make it more inviting!

What a week not to be in Chicago! - or the southwest. I will be keeping my eye out this week for public works of art in and around north Jersey. Today I was in Morristown so there are a couple historical pieces.
Does that bottom picture look a little stretched or something? Thanks.

These metal statues/sculptures were climbing up the face of the building my dd is studying in. She's on the 6th floor and she drew my attention to them. Taken through the sunroof of my car.

A variety of carvings from past competitions are situated along the seawalk.

Here is my try - in Frankenmuth, Mi. A very touristy city where everyone takes the same old boring pictures - my take on art there.....

I think this photo proves once and for all that art really is subjective. I'm not sure if I like this or not. It is..... interesting.

Bill, thanks for another PT! This one provided me with the opportunity of a trip to Chester (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chester,_Illinois), IL, the birthplace of Elzie Segar, the creator of Popeye. Chester is also known as the Home of Popeye.

We better be careful or we're going to get a reputation for having a lot of rain. ;)

You can find art in the strangest places. This Mariachi player is outside of a Mexican restaurant in town.

Thanks for this theme Bill, it reminded me to go see what's in this spot tucked between two buildings.

This is a sculpture of Robert Pershing Wadlow (http://www.altonweb.com/history/wadlow/), who grew to 8' 11" tall. The sculptor was Edward Engelhardt Giberson. You can see the sculpture of his chair in the background.

This is on W. 3rd St. by NYU. Didn't get close enough to see if it is just an optical illusion or what.
Thanks for the challenge.

Went to the U of Guelph to visit my baby girl the other day and it turns out they have a small outdoor creative thing going on.
quite a few to choose from but I got quite lucky with this. It looks as though the face is convex in this shot (nose closest to me) but in fact the whole face is concave. You can tell by the edge on the left.

This statue stands in front of Station #9 here in Tracy...
...is there some law that dictates firemen must have a bushy moustache?
