I always admire your starter images but this one is too cool. Where is it from?

Thanks Ellen ... it's in Palm Springs, right next to the statue of Lucy Ricardo on the bus bench

and a block or so away from the Sonny Bono statue we've all abused so well.

Thanks, Helen, Ellen and Lorri! HDR software makes for quick results. And Ellen, I was on the streets shooting at 6:00, which was horribly late since I got up at 4:30. But it was nice to sleep in that day!;)

Steven, what a perfect example of an HDR image! I love its surreal look. Which software did you use? Photomatix?

This is a question. Most people host their photo entry with pixentral even when they use the same photo on their blog. I normally post on my blog first and use the blog as a host for the photo. I not sure if I'm using the right terminology. But I guess the bottom line is, Is it preferred that post photos for challenges using pixentral?

Linda -
It's totally up to you. I personally like pixentral because you can post images at 750 or 800 pixels, large enough to let the viewers see the detail of the photo. There have been some really nice images posted that were just so small they were hard to see well.
Whatever works best for you though is great.

Thanks, Sepiana. Yes, Photomatix is the software. I usually favor more light smoothing, to give it a more realistic look (yet well exposed,) but sometimes the surreal is good, if the subject calls for it!

We sure saw a wide variety of artworks this week.
Steven – Thanks for the great start. It’s a fascinating piece of art, and the time of day you chose to shoot it , along with the HDR finish combined for a great image. The mural and your City Hall make a great background as well. Call me crazy, but I’ll bet a little coffee shop at that corner would do pretty well. ;-)
Eleanor – There is so much art dedicated to the American Revolution in the Northeast you sure didn’t need to be in Chicago or the Southwest. That’s a nice montage. I think you’re right, the image in the inset does seem to make the statues look a bit pudgy, but they wear it well. ;-) I love the colors and the tromp l'oeil in your second entry.
Bayla – Those are really fun! Your perspective is fantastic as well. I’m glad you found a spot to safely pull over and bring your car to a full and complete stop so you could get your shot. That’s what you did right? Bayla??
Helen – Very cool capture and your link makes that competition sound like a lot of fun. I love the look on his face!
Amy – Welcome to the photo themes! I’m glad you joined us. I think that’s the most entertaining image I’ve seen from Frankenmuth, and as a former Wisconsinite I’ve seen my share. Congratulations on a very creatively taken shot!
Kim – Great job finding something unique. So far you’ve been the only one of us to find one of, uh, those. There are parts of it that I like very much and you sure got a nice shot of it. The trees and the building in the background give it nice scale.
Sepiana – Wow! 900 pounds of Popeye! I like your angle looking up at the statue, and like Kim’s shot, the trees give it a sense of scale.
Clara – I like the big droopy moustache!! That’s really fun, and if you have to wait for a table you might as well be entertained. Nice finish and another fun entry.
Ellen – I’m glad the photo themes could be there for you. ;-) Those are great fun and good use of a small piece of vertical space. Aren’t you glad you looked?
Sharon – There’s so much interesting stuff to learn about from everyone’s photos. I had never heard of Mr. Wadlow but feel honored to have read about him … thanks for the link and the great photo.
Mary Lou – Well it seems aptly titled!;) Nice shot of a fun piece of art Mary Lou. What keeps me coming back to it is the way you stretched a tighter crop of the image for your frame. It ‘s very intriguing and a nice result.
Linda – That’s just cool … especially for hotel lobby art! It looks just as though the suspended plane is doing an out of border effect from the mural on the wall. Nicely shot!
Gary – Great illusion! I would have looked at that a long time without imagining it to be concave. Nice capture! (Thanks for the clue to look for the left edge.)
Great stuff everyone … there’s still time for more, so keep them coming in.

Bill,
Don't worry, I had parked safely and even switched off the engine. The only reason I took it through the sunroof of the car was because my dd had a fit at the thought of me actually getting out of the vehicle and taking a photo in public!!
Thanks once again for taking the time to comment on all our efforts!

Thanks Ellen. No, there are nothing but good feelings for Umbrella Man. He's a much loved part of Pioneer Courthouse Square.
