Is it possible to enter text "outside" a photo?

I would like to briefly describe a photo but I don't want to
type the text directly onto the photo itself. Instead, I would
like to enter the text in a layer so that it appears below the
photo itself. When I save the photo, I would like it to save
the image as well as the text below it.

I have the photo as layer 0, and two text layers
that are currently placed above the photo layer.

Can this be done?

I haven't figured out how...
Thanks for any tips.

You can use Image > Resize > Canvas Size, in the dialog, click the Anchor to the top middle arrow, then enter a new height, adding the amount of space you need for your caption at the bottom. This will make your photo taller, so if you print it, it may crop some off the top or bottom. so you may want to crop it yourself to control what gets cut off.

Another simpler method would be to create a new blank layer above the photo, use the Rectangular Marquee to select a strip across the bottom of the photo, fill it with white with Edit > Fill Selection > Use: White. Then use the Type tool to add your text.

Either way, you'll lose part of the height of the photo in order to keep the aspect ratio the same for printing.

Thanks, Diana.

I used the first method and it works great.
