I have some actions a friend created in PhotoShop CS3, and I have them in my PSE 7.0 but when I click on "play" I get errors telling me
"The command make is currently not available"

I'm not sure what to do here. I absolutely adore her actions and want to be able to use them too without having to front the expense of PS. Any help/suggestions?

TIA!!!:o

Hi ..

... and welcome to the Village :)

It really depends on how complex the action is ... as a general rule the more complex a photoshop action is then the less likely it is to work in Elements. The problem is that Elements doesn't understand all the commands that Photoshop has so if one of those is used then the action doesn't work.

A couple of thoughts .... does the image you are using the action on just have a background layer ... if so then try converting the layer into an ordinary layer before you run the action.

Did you have an image open when you ran the action ... Elements needs something open before an action will run whereas Photoshop doesn't.

Yes, I had a photo opened when I was trying to apply the action, and that does make sense that it may be too complex for elements.

I don't understand what you meant by the layers; how do I convert the image with "ordinary layers"? What are ordinary layers? I'm still learning elements and don't know too much about post processing apps. If it helps, all I did was open a photo in elements and tried to apply the action to it without doing anything else to the photo.

Hi ...

Occasionally an action doesn't work on background layer ... convert a background layer to an ordinary one just open up the image and go to the layers palette then double click on the image thumbnail. A Box will pop up suggesting a new name ... just click on OK and it will change the layer for you.

Although in this case it sounds like some of the commands in the action may not be understandable to Elements.

What does the action do ... we may be able to find something similar that will work in Elements :)

I did what you suggested about the layer and it didn't work. :( Oh I'm sad! Her set is gorgeous and it's packed with a number of actions that just make pictures look incredible.

After I click play I get various errors, including the one about "make" mentioned earlier but also replacing the word make I'll also see separate errors including "copy" and "delete" and "curve 1" commands.

Hi ...

I left you a reply in the other thread too ...

It does sound like the action may be too complex but if you want to send me a private message I will check it out for you (I have both Photoshop & Elements)

Wendy :)
