View Full Version : Text/Photo Transition at same time?

Hi All,
With the sheer number of postings in this forum subgroup, they are a little hard to navigate. If the answer to this question is somewhere, I would welcome a link so that people don't have to go into too much detail.
I have placed a photo into the entire screen and have placed text onto it. When I do a fade, I can't get the text to fade at the same time as the photo. Does anyone know how I can get that to happen? I also want to do this with some other transitions like the curtain effect.
Thanks.... Jamie

Unfortunately, we cannot escape details.
What version of Premiere Elements are you using?
I have placed a photo into the entire screen and have placed text onto it.
Are you in the Timeline or Sceneline View of Premiere Elements?
When I do a fade,
How are you doing this "Fade"? What route?
If you are in the Timeline View, look at the Timeline and the orange line that runs through Video Track 1 where you have your photo as well as Video Track 2 where you have your Title.
a. if you have applied Fade In/Fade Out (See Opacity Panel) to the Title, then you should see a white dot near the beginning and near the end of the orange line of that photo file on the Timeline. These are keyframe points which can be adjusted for your Fade In/Fade Out timing. Further, you can adjust the location, shorten/expand the length, etc the Title on Video Track 2.
But without details we could go on indefinitely with how tos which may not apply to what you are doing...example, you may be in the Titler applying one of the Fade options in Text Animation....lots of possibilities. We could also throw in the concept of keyframing and specifically keyframing the Opacity of the Title, but...
If you are not using it already, think Timeline View for more control gained because you can see what is going on.
To be continued....

Truly sorry about excluding some of the details. Being a Premiere Elements 7.0 newbie, I am going to try to get into the verbage you use, but it still might not be enough!
I have placed a photograph into the sceneline. I have taken some text and inserted it as a title on top of the photograph. Put a "cube spin" (for example) as a transition into the timeline at the end of that photo. What happens is that the text spins, but the photo does not. As the transition finishes, it just cuts to the next image.
I do see the orange lines, but don't see the dots. Here is a link to what I see (if it helps).

I can try to be more specific...

The link that you posted opens to a site where you need a password for the site to determine if you are a guest or someone else. But, I would discourage you from posting your personal password to that site in this open thread.
Let us see if we can work this out with an exchange of descriptions. Please never hesitate to ask a question in your own words, not necessarily shop talk of the pros. Call it the way you see it. We are all Premiere Elements users trying to get the program to work for our projects and goals.
So, let me get this correct....you are using the Premiere Elements 7 Sceneline View, with a photo in one of the scenes of its Filmstrip. You have created a Title for the photo. You have placed a Cube Spin transition after the photo and before the next. Are you saying that you did not apply any Fade In/Fade Out effects??
I will be back shortly after taking a looked at what you described in Premiere Elements 7:
photo
text
Cube Spin Transition
and NO fade in/fade out applied effects

Jamie,
I am going to try to answer your question based on what I think you are doing and seeing and give you an example of how to correct the issue cited. Let me know if I am right in my assumptions.
I tend to be "somewhat" detailed in my responses. My short notes often end up as novelettes. So, I will give you the bottom line first....
Given that you place two photos in each of the first two scene spots in the Filmstrip of the Sceneline View, create a Title for each, and apply a 3D Cube Spin transition between the two.....
You need to go to the Timeline View of the program to
a. make sure that each transition alignment is adjusted appropriately to either Start at Cut, End at Cut, or Center at cut (double click transition in Timeline to bring up Properties Panel with area for the transition adjustments)
b. with the Timeline Selection Tool, adjust the position/length of the Title so that it starts and ends appropriately (see below example for what I mean)
c. you should be working in the Timeline View, but my example will start with the Sceneline View to give you a better idea of what has been going on.
1. Place photo 1 and photo 2 in scene spot 1 and 2 respectively of the Sceneline View Filmstrip. Create a Title for each. using the Safe Margins Apply the 3D Cube Spin transition after Photo 1 as well as after Photo 2.
2. Switch to the Timeline View. When you do, you will find:
a. Your photos on Video Track 1 with a Cube Spin transition (gray bar) positioned with End at Cut Alignment, that is, the transition is placed in photo 1 so that it ends at the cut between photos 1 and 2. Your Title for photo 1 was placed on Video Track 2 directly above photo 1 and spans the whole duration of the photo. Leave the transition alignment as found, Cut at End, but we need to adjust the duration of the Title. With the Timeline Selection Tool, take your mouse cursor (red bar with black arrow configuration) and drag the Title 1 end inward so that Title 1 end is directly over the start of the transition 1 on the Video Track 1. Do the same for photo 2 and transition 2.
When you play that back, your Titles displays should be OK.
There are so many other details, but I am trying to spare you them until we get through these.
Please update us on your progress.

Add on....
I edited out
using the Safe Margins
for now, but somehow it got included in the typing. So, just make believe it is not there for now. But, the concept of Safe Margins is important when placing text so that the text does not get cut off by your TV when viewing a DVD-VIDEO for example.
