There is no video noise filter in Premiere Elements.
Most people end up purchasing the Neat Video Noise Filter
http://www.neatvideo.com/

When recording in low light especially the Neat video noise filter does an amazing job of reducing video noise and gain. I have used it many times on wedding videos and other footage both commercial and personal with excellent results.

Here are some recommended plug ins for Premiere Elements, the Neat Noise Filter is included.

Are you talking about video noise or audio noise?

If audio noise, there is a noise removal effect in Premiere Elements 7--Edit Mode/Effects/Audio Effects/DeNoiser
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremiereElements/7.0/WSF8CBE888-6702-4f8b-A85E-71B4B1531883.html#WS0FF91E9B-D95B-438a-BB80-0271D30A14BB
However, if this is the issue, the best way to go would be the free program Audacity. There is an expensive program called Camtasia whose audio noise removal capabilities are outstanding.
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

If you are talking about video noise, is it the kind that you see in low light recording (seen especially if you try to lighten the recording) or is it the kind best described as pixelation? Then we may get into your attempts to upsize an image.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Can you reduce grain/noise in premiere 7??

Considering the OP says 'grain/noise' I feel it is safe to say this is in reference to video noise.

Thanks for the clarification on your noise issue.

After you actually use the Neat Video Noise Filter, please update us on the results.

By the way, I did not see in your post where you requested information about free DVD Menu Templates. If you are looking for them at CE's site, check out from that home page:

(scroll down in left hand column) to Complimentary

Thanks for providing the directions to the free dvd templates ATR :)

CJ, I am sure you will love the Neat Video plug in.
Another product you may be interested in at some point is the Mercalli stabilizer plug in from ProDAd, another good one for the tool box if you ever have any shaky video (and who doesn't at some point?).

I am still wondering how the topic of free DVD Menu Template came up in the first place in this thread, however.....??

I too hope that the recommended video noise filter solves CJ's problems if a remedy was looked for and not found within Premiere Elements. I am looking forward to CJ's results.

But, I just want to place some food for thought for those who purchased Premiere Elements and are striving for better without first looking/troubleshooting within the program itself....two examples:
1. a report of poor quality .mov export coupled with suggestion contributed for using Quicktime Pro...however, great quality .mov (H.264) was obtained from Premiere Elements after some adjustments in Premiere Elements and computer.
2. shaky video, with suggestion for Premiere Elements plug in to correct that....that is great, but have the people with the shaky video tried the Premiere Elements "Video Stabilizer" first....see Stabilizer video tutorial in Learning Center at
http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/learningcenter/index_premiere_4.php#elements4
I will not get into the use of a tripod during video recording or corrective action in camera.

The suggested tools for the tool box are interesting and educational coming from someone with so much experience in the field, so do not misunderstand the message. All that I am saying is that, unless your have limitless resources (financial and otherwise), take a look at your initial investment, Premiere Elements, to maximize the dividend return.

I have purchased this filter, but I haven't figured out how to use it. I am going tomorrow for some help from my new video friend. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for all the help!:)

I took a look at that link that you just posted and looked at some of the before and after claims. It looks amazing, so I have downloaded a sample and will give the plug in a try and report back.

ATR, there are really only two plug ins that are consistently recommended by many people, the Mercalli Image Stabilizer and the Neat Video Noise Filer. The prices are reasonable and they do amazing things and can make bad video look pretty good :)

The before sample video that I downloaded from the software manufacturer's site is "gross" quality-wise, for want of a better description. I cannot image anyone shooting that kind of video. If they did, they would be better served addressing their concerns to the camera rather than plug ins for Premiere Elements.

But, it is good to know that there is a rescue out there for those "rare" occasions when the one time only video looks that bad. I have a lot of "must try" projects, but this one is at the top of the list.

I will report back on my results.

Thanks for the feedback on your use of the Neat product.

I downloaded the tryout software with its sample (which looked probably like a worst case scenario). The use of the software did improve the quality of this sample (especially minimizing or removing completely that grain look), but I expected more because of the "After" view of the sample that they showed on the download site. It was a quick look, so maybe, because of your report, I will give it another try.

I found the results depended on the frame size. Did you?

To be continued.....

I have a new friend who is helping me learn how to work elements. We added the neat video, but then we had to adjust the color levels some also. It took adding a few effects to the clip. I am not sure of size if it matters. I know my clips were several minutes long; it took forever to render.

Thanks for the additional comments.

I have not gotten back to another try at this filter. It remains on my to do list. Hope to get it off that list soon.

I have lots of old video that is grainy due to being shot in low light mainly and I downloaded the demo plugin just to see how effective it would be.

After trying out the sample provided by Neat Video, I took a shot at using it with one of my old clips and was pretty successful at removing the noise. I'm sure I haven't learned enough about how to configure the filter to have the best results I can get yet.

Jim,

As I mentioned I am behind schedule on my to do list. So, I would appreciate your observations on your further workings with the filter and your videos.

Thanks.

(I am planning on adding some comments on your workflow in your thread soon, I hope.)

Yes! I will certainly post my findings on the noise filter. I really really hope I can figure out how to get it to work some miracles for my old grainy video footage.

Thanks again!
