Hi
Which Wide Angle Converter Lens is better? 43mm 0.5 Wide Angle Converter Lens or Canon WD-H43 43mm 0.7x Wide Angle Converter Lens?
Thanks

Which Wide Angle Converter Lens is better?
Have you seen the following link?

I do thank you for the vote of confidence in asking me this question. Although I have hands on experience with Premiere Elements, that is not the case with this lens and the camera(s) with which it is used.
All that being said, here goes....
From what I have read the "Canon WD-H43 43 0.7 Wide Angle Converter Lens" can be used with the Canon HV20 and HV30 camcorders which are HD miniDV camcorders? You cannot use filters with this lens.
The Canon HV30 can record SD video as well as HDV MPEG2 video as 1440 x 1080 (4:3) with an anamorphic aspect ratio which stretches the video at playback (16:9).
Now back to this lens...it's major claim to fame is the 30% wider perspective that it offers which I read has advantages:
a. "when you stay close to your family and still get everyone in the frame"
b. "shooting landscape and want to increase visual coverage"
Check out the online lens reviews for the cons of its use as a lens and distortions associated with converter lens. I have seen reports where people get better results from wide angle lens as compared to wide angle converter lens. But, those remarks seem related to use of the lens and video recording properties.
I am assuming that your question is tracing back to editing of the video recorded with the Canon with this lens. If you have the Canon HV30 and are recording HDV 1080i30, what are your setting for your Premiere Elements project preset...HD 1080i30?
If I have not put apples and oranges together after looking into an answer for this question, I would wonder about possible converter lens distortion coupled with the playback stretching with the anamorphic aspect ratio. Often the suggestion is to try out the lens in camera before commitment.
So, please fill in some additional details to direct my speculations.

Be sure to download the free capture program HDVSplit, there have been some problems capturing from the HV30 into Premiere Elements.

The HDVSplit software is often highly recommended for HDV capture

I assume that you know about HDV and Premiere Elements scene splitting by content rather than timecode....just in case you try HDV capture without the HDVSplit,
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremiereElements/7.0/WS5E62CA4D-57AA-49e5-99C9-38C6581F4CC4.html
Like everything else, it may have its glitches before it does the job that many have reported....

I would be curious to learn how the HDV capture goes with and without the HDVSplit, using your new camcorder and its recordings. Did you ever say what version of Premiere Elements that you are using?

Looking forward to your first hand experiences with the Canon HV30 and Premiere Elements 7.
Did you also buy the Canon WD-H43 43 mm 0.7 Wide Angle Converter Lens or other?
