Where are my photos?!

I've deleted several photos from the Organizer in PSE 5 because they had the dreaded red, broken, disconnected icon on them. They're still somewhere on my hard drive but I can't find them. When I hit the "reconnect all missing files and reconnect missing file", it eventually brings up a screen that tells me the photos are somewhere in "My Pictures" but the "fields" I need to reconnect the photos are greyed out so I can't reconnect. Where o' where have my photos gone?!! Unfortunately, none of the prior posts have answered my questions. If someone doesn't help me soon, I'm afraid I'm going to need anger management classes!!!!! Your original photos are still where you put them when they came out of the camera or scanner, unless when you deleted them from PSE, you clicked "Delete from Hard Disk".

In the future, you should know that the disconnected photo problem in PSE happens because you move or rename photos/folders in Windows. Never ever ever use Windows to move or rename your photos or folders containing photos. Instead, use PSE commands to move/rename your photos.

Actually it depends on what you use to organize your photo. If you use PSE, then follow dj_paige advice. I use Picassa, and for me it is ok to move, rename, etc. on Windows and it will automatically pick it up.

ok so I messed up big and moved my photos (to an external hard drive)and now I have so many disconnected photos, that it might be the all time high. How do I get this fixed? I have removed PSE6 from my computer and reinstalled it and that was no help. I can't spend the next 10 years reconnecting all of these photos.

The easiest way to fix this is to use Windows to move your photos back to exactly where they were. This reconnects them.
